You're not suppose to kill it. You tag it and run from it until it falls asleep. Then you find it, tag it, run away from it until it falls asleep. Then you find it, tag it............I think you get the idea. Only ran once so not sure how many times you do this but eventually it gives you the needle.

I ran away from the dragon too fast and it also disappeared. I searched for the sleeping bastard for like 20 min and nothing :|

I'm not sure if there is a misplaced notice. I got the notice that I had found the lair, but it was quite a bit distant from the actual place. I only stumbled into it by continuing to run around. The notice came when I was on the edge of the map, but the lair is more in the center.

This is one of the more annoying quests in the game now. I'm not actually sure it's finishable. When I did it, the dragon disappeared and that was it. He wasn't visible anywhere.

I've completed the quest a handful of times (3 or 4 maybe) and have yet to have him bug out. First you have to find him, which can be quite hard since he's basically a tiny red circle in a room full of clutter. Follow the snores as they get loudest and then look VERY carefully around (you can't tab or backspace on him). Once you find him, talk to him and start running! I run counter-clockwise circles around the room, jumping over stuff that will hopefully slow him down, and he hasn't caught me yet. He gives up after about 60 seconds and then you get your end reward.

There have been reports that hirelings can bug him out, so leave your hirelings outside, and that losing too many times could also bug him out.

Somewhere, I bet that FlimsyFirewood was having a chuckle at all the folks that couldn't find the wee pseudo-dragon. Then a gasp when the bug reports started coming in that hirelings and losing at tag could bork it up. It's cool dude, bugs happen, we still appreciate ya!

I had it bug out the first time I ran it on Live (it was uncompletable on Lama). The dragon disappeared on the second tag, no breathing sounds, no nothing. Had to restart. So it does bug sometimes.

I finally found the correct chest but nothing popped out so I had to reset the quest. I did find a soul vessel and artifact in the bear chest though so not complaining.

Same here, I think we can confirm that no snore sounds = bugged
Though as kamimitsu said, if you run around as soon as you find him it can be completed very quickly. I got the bug on the first run, I got tagged a few times (might be related to that).
Also, The chest pops no needle, it pops a unicorn you have to chase. First time I didn't see it, I found it later

My one time so far completing the quest, the dragon disappeared and the quest announced that I had found the dragon's lair.
    My Response: "No I haven't"
After several minutes of fruitless search I went to Youtube and found a video.
Using a few landmarks ( mainly the hollow log ) I managed to find the entrance.
It wasn't remotely close to where the dragon had vanished.
After that I was able to finish the quest.

No, I'm surprised at how hard it is to find the bugger in the cave. Adding particles to him in the next patch to make him easier to spot.

Hirelings can still get tagged, but you can leave them outside the cave or dismiss them inside so that he doesn't try and tag them any more.

Particles will be good. BTW, I really like how the snoring gets louder the closer you are. Makes it really easy and satisfying to find him!

Fair enough. Particles sound like a good idea, though I wouldn't want it to be TOO easy. Like the other poster said, I really like having to use the sound clues to narrow down his location. Not sure if you can, but I'd make the particles have a very short draw distance, so that players need to use their ears first, and their eyes second.

Alternately, (and only because I think particles might be too easy and invalidate the whole thing) you could have him twitch or stretch a limb periodically, like sleeping dogs or cats do. People tend to pick up motion pretty easily. That would make players have to hone in on the sound and then look for a flicker or other movement, without giving the game away too easily. Just a thought.

Particles would be fantastic. I don't play with sound so finding the dragon is ways a pain.

Speaking of accessibility tweaks, can the minimap icons for the "chase the nesting creatures" get changed to something a little more overt? The beige kobold icon is very difficult to see against the map background (versus a red dot).
    Nope.

My problem was finding the cave to begin with. Once in the cave .....

I keep pressing the key I've set for "Select nearest object". It always gets the collectables first, but once I get all of them all that is left in the cave that is selectable is the dragon. I find it very quickly.

    Default Dumbest quest ever

Is this quest needed to continue storyline? I've spent way to long chasing the stupid little dragon for a mere 5k xp. After 4 attempts and better part of 3 hours... completed.

Hints: 1. after finding the correct chest, open map. The animal you are chasing will be a blinking dot on the map that you can target and follow if you minimize or just run to with it open.
    2. before entering the lil dragon's cave, it is located near quest entrance and will show up on the big map when opened, dismiss all summoned helpers.

I'm still very annoyed with this quest and hope it is fixed.

Default I just try to tag it a few times

I got tired of looking for it to tag. So I tagged it a few times and then just attacked it to get the needle.

The first time I ran it, I attacked it right after it hatched (level 30 Warlock Aura pulse on Heroic Elite) and it bugged out.

This feels like a one and done, an interesting quest very unique but not what "I" would call a fun quest.

Thank you for post. Helped me finish after several re-entries, and several hours. Had to run counter-clockwise twice. Second time took a haste (5) potion. A jump potion probably would help. There is a fine line between challenging quest and fist through screen quest. I think Needle is over that line.

I think an easy fix would be give us an option.

    1) Kill the Dragon and take the Needle.

    2) Play Tag-Bonus XP and a bonus chest with the chance for more Named Loot.

I think those are good suggestions. If I am remembering the XP Box in the screen, it says that not killing the dragon and not getting tag is an option, not the requirement that it actually is. If an action is necessary to complete a quest, it is not optional!
