Default question: reincarnating into an iconic?

Is it possible to reincarnate into an iconic hero? If so, how?

I assume you would take a regular race to cap and then do it. iconic heart of wood?

What you currently are in this life determines what heart you need. So if you're not an Iconic race now, eat an Epic heart and get your Epic past life and then eat a True Heart of Wood/Heart of Blood to get a class life or a racial life. Then when you're reincarnating, pick the Iconic of your choice to start out your next life. Just like starting any other new life, but you'll get to level 15 for "free".

Something to remember though, if you DO come back iconic (or just make a new iconic character), they have to hit lv 30 before they can racial/heroic reincarnate. Otherwise you'd just go 15-20 over and over heh.

The Wiki is your friend: https://ddowiki.com/page/Reincarnation

Bottom line (as stated above) - you don't worry about your next race when choosing a Heart of Wood (or Blood), just your current status. Iconic Hearts are what Iconic characters use (at 30), Heroic/racial/Epic hearts are what normal races use (at 20 or 30, respectively). (And anyone can use a Lesser HoW, whenever.)

When you use a Heart of Wood (for Heroic) or Heart of Blood (racial) or Iconic Heart, you then "start again" just as if creating a new character - you're free to choose either a Heroic Race or Iconic Race, without regard to your last race (or whatever Heart you just used).

Wow - the reincarnation system is a bit of a frankenstein monster, and the Wiki has been (re-)rewritten several times to try to address everything, but I thought we'd finally achieved something close to "clear". Maybe, in an effort to address every tweak, the whole thing has just become a WoT, and everything is lost in everything else. :/

For example, the topic in this thread is specifically addressed (and emphasized) here: https://ddowiki.com/page/Reincarnati...to_Reincarnate

But a fail is a fail - what could be done to make this more clear?

(Edit - Since this seems to be a common point of confusion, added additional emphasis under "The Basics", near the very beginning of the article, here: https://ddowiki.com/page/Reincarnati..._Reincarnation )
