Default Please consider changing /lowering the meteor swarm effects

I try not to complain and try not to infringe on anyone's fun. But playing as a melee in a group with a fire sorcerer is a bit much wouldn't you say. Every second your screen erupts with the loud and extremely annoying explosion.

Other spell effects are bearable.. fireballs.... acid blasts. Having a meteor swarm explode right on top of you every 2 seconds really lowers the quality of the experience.... alot.

Maybe a volume slider for other characters spell effects, or even a transparency slider. I know these might be tough to implement.. redoing and toning down meteor swarm might be a better solution

(smaller rocks, much lower volume... you can still make it satisfying to cast without deafening and blinding the rest of the group every 2 seconds.
Tales of terror abound in coastal cities of a powerful cabal of sea-faring pirates led by a trio of mages who have coined themselves 'The False Gods'.

perhaps you are not building and playing your melee correctly.

How is that even relevant to OP's request? They don't want the damage changed, they only want the audio and visual effects muted a bit so it doesn't deafen them or obstruct their vision. It's not an unreasonable ask.

Try fiddling with your graphics settings? I never had a problem with meteor, but definitely go turn off post processing stuff for what goes up.

There might already be a setting in there somewhere that makes it a lot more tolerable.

As it is, I don't think it's annoying to enough people to warrant a change to the spell. Not like old school death aura. That was fun in coal chamber....

Heh? If your Fire Sorc likes the sound, great, but you can't defend your right to annoy people without coming off as less than obnoxious. Try playing as melee sometime. The bang your fire sorc hears goes up by about 10x for the melee it lands on.

He just wants FX reduced on his own screen -- something I can definitely relate to and something I routinely do in other games. Almost every single MMO I've played has some form of tunable limit for your own FX and another for other player's FX. Flashy FX are fun, but I like to use them as a cues. If I don't need to see or hear it, I don't want it dominating my screen and preventing me from seeing or hearing actual cues.

DDO in general is much better than most games about keeping FX within reason, but Meteor Swarm is outright offensive and definitely needs to have both it's visual and sound FX seriously reduced by at least 90%.

Simple solution... Have spells damage everyone, not just the mobs. Said sorcerer would soon change tactics or no longer be able to find groups Hmmm, maybe they could even implement this in the next Hardcore League.

But, yeah, meteor swarms are annoying.

Some games have a setting where you can lower the visual effects from other players in general, that would be a great addition to DDO.

Acid fog ok? How about sleet storm? Maybe dancing ball annoys you? Fire wall? Mass hold ok? If it bothers you that much don’t group with fire sorc.

Exalted angelelic form was toned down for being too bright wasnt it?

Meteor swarm is extremly annoying when your screen flashes white multiple times per cast, particularly in dark dungeons.
    And the noise...

And a fire sorc will cast this every 3 s for the entire dungeon. Its great

Turn your visual affects down and it usually won’t be much of an issue.
This is why nobody groups anymore and there are hierlings in the game.

It is your fault that you engage in close combat with your melee!

This is not how You play DDO!
    Nuke or double X-bow.
You nerfed my monks, throwers, dailies and alchemists.
I hardly play anymore, found a better hobby.
    Thank You!

I agree that there are a few spells that are noticably, uncomfortably loud compared to others. Meteor Swarm the most commonly used.
I can be found on Orien as Cilon

I'm imagining if every THF and TWF strikethrough melee also has their attacks damage friendly forces, what a game that would be. I don't know, every melee would become a thrower I guess? Or just never group and never use an unparked hireling.

That is called griefing and don't think for a second people would not run around DD'ing their party for giggles. Or melee for that matter. DC + swing + strikethrough = *muhahaha*

And the only thing this would cause would be PUG's becoming nonexistent. The opposite of SSG's stated goal.

    OP,
There are many things graphically and sound wise players want changed as they are annoying to hear or see repeatedly. Repeating x-bows come to mind for "annoying sounds" from grouping with ranged artificers.
