Hi everyone,
I'd like to make a suggestion that just seems logical, given the state of RNG treasure in DDO - the ability to craft Epic Named upgrade items (shards, seals, scrolls, etc.) through the use of DDO's crafting system. I put some thought into this after running Against the Demon Queen raid at least 40 times in the Epic levels (what is the definition of insanity again?) trying to get a Epic shard for my Staff of Arcane Power - and being no closer or farther away from obtaining it after all that effort. My character is a 30th level Wizard with max level crafting skills and I thought, why can't I just make one myself?
Until the completely out of date Shard, Seal, Scroll system gets replaced, and even for other Epic upgrade systems, it seems there should be an alternate way to make positive progress toward an item you really want - instead of letting the RNG system dictate whether you get something on the first run through on a quest, or your 1000th, or quite frankly, NEVER.
In order to craft Epic upgrade items, it would require a maxed out crafting skill (which by itself requires HUGE amounts of time and materials to achieve - literally tens of thousands of deconstructed items) in order to start, plus the materials to do a specific upgrade. The progress would of course require time and lots of materials - but these should not be RNG based either (such as current very rare crafting materials) - because that would simply swap one RNG chase for another. There should be a way to make progress in a positive way without having to rely on RNG. Perhaps one suggestion is to simply use massive amounts of Cannith Essences - as these can be obtained from any magic item, thus being obtainable but not reliant on RNG. This would still requiring a lot of work however, as Essences only come in small amounts. I'm sure other, smarter folks can come up a better suggestion on what to use for this upgrade item system I am proposing, that would allow for positive progress toward your goal, without having to bow to the RNG gods.
What do you all think? Isn't making ground (however small) toward something better than just grinding your gears for the time you are investing? It certainly seems like a logical alternative that should be available to us.
