    Default Cosmetic Mechanics

Recently, I’ve been about getting some cosmetics for my main char, but not sure of the mechanics yet. I have some questions about the mirror of glamoring:

Regarding to armor: does it display the cosmetic if I’m wearing different type of armor? (Using heavy armor cosmetic and wearing light armor etc)

Regarding to weapon: does glamoring a named weapon (RL greatswprds etc) with weapon effects that produce auras get the aura on cosmetic version, or does it create a “clean” base look?

Regarding to cloaks: does mirror of glamoring work on them? Or are they only available via buying the premade looks in ddo store?

Thanks for the answers in advance!

armor: you can look like u wearing a pyjama while being in heavy armor, only restriction are docent vs everything else. no docent cosmetic on fleshies, and vice versa.

weapons: glammer will copy the weapon look and effect, glammer aura will replace the effect with one of the choices

cloaks: yes, mirror works on cloaks

To add for weapons, cosmetics need to fit within the same group for animation purposes, so if you're using a crossbow you can't use a bow cosmetic, and a quarterstaff cosmetic won't display for a greatsword... but a 1handed melee weapon of pretty much any type can still be used even if you're going the dual dagger vistani approach, which can have some funny results.

I'm rather fond of having a monk appearing to wear full plate while a more tanky heavy armoured sword & board build will be using rags, barnacled shield & first blood.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

This is like 90% true, but they've started introducing various cosmetic armors that can be worn both by warforged and by everyone else, particularly the cosmetics you get from expansion packs and other weird special stuff like the season pass.

weapons: glammer will copy the weapon look and effect, glammer aura will replace the effect with one of the choices

You can make cosmetic versions of the following items:

    goggles
    helmet
    armor
    cloak
    weapons
    shields
    orbs

    You can NOT glamer runearms.

Weapon glamers can only be used over similar weapon types, IIRC the weapon types are:

    one-handed
    greataxe
    two-handed sword (includes falchion)
    quarterstaff
    two-handed bludgeon (greatclub and maul)
    bow
    crossbow
    thrown

Shields cannot go over orbs and vice versa.

Basically the reason for this is that the different weapons have different animations and this was an issue.

Wielding a runearm tends to bork up crossbow cosmetics but usually you can fix this if you take the runearm, weapon, and cosmetic on and off a few times. You will get a message that your weapon doesn't match your cosmetic but it'll usually adjust anyway.

yes well, I was focusing on mirrors of glamoring per OP. The reason normal armors cannot be made into cosmetic for warforged and vice-versa is because say a normal armor would not have a warforged art variant in the code, nor the other way around.

as for expansion cosmetics, the art was done for all races, making those cosmetic items a one size fit all, but because they are cosmetic from the get-go, they are not actually armor nor docents to begin with.

I suspect the color on everything in the game is hard-coded in instead of being a variable that could be switched, except maybe random gen cloaks. A shockingly large amount of the game was originally coded this way, supposedly.
