Default Very confused need help without acronyms please

Hi all. I played this game a little at launch and still have a level 5 Monk and Cleric. I want to play a Paladin and will have 32 points as I subscribed. I think I want to do a paladin using two handed weapons. I have looked at builds but I have no idea what any of them mean as I don't know the terminology. Could someone please let me know what would be a good starting point for race, feats etc. to get me through the first few levels without totally screwing this up.

    Thanks in advance.

What would probably be easiest is if you link some of the builds you're interested in, then we can clarify any and all acronyms we see. For anyone else who looks at this thread, if an acronym is used for something like a particular enhancement, it would probably help the OP to not only say what the acronym stands for, but what tier it is in the tree or what core it is.

I don't really look at any forums besides DDO so I don't know how prevalent the term OP is, but in this case it means original poster--just in case you didn't know. If someone clarifies an acronym but doesn't specify where you will find the enhancement or item, you can check the wiki pretty easily by searching for 'ddo {name of the enhancement tree}' and using control + F to find the enhancement by name, or for an item just look up 'ddo {name of item}' and the wiki page should be near the top of the list, the page shows you what quest you can find it in. The quest shown there is also a link if you aren't sure where the quest is, so you can click the link to figure out where the quest your item is in.

    I would suggest:

    Human
    16 STR
    16 CON
    14 CHA
Spread the other ability points out. Keep in mind that you can use magic items to get more wisdom for spells later.

As you level up you'll need to increase STR at 4th lvl to get the next feats in the two handed fighting chain. I would suggest adding to STR every 4th as well.

    Feats:
lvl 1 - Power attack (turn on power attack feat by moving the feat icon to your hotbar and activating it)
lvl 1 (human gets extra feat at 1st lvl) - Two Handed Fighting (THF hereafter) (there are 3 THF feats that you pick up at 6th and 12th lvl) (take Improved Critical Slashing Weapons at 9th lvl)

    Equipment:
Heavy Armor (the best you can get, suggest farming the Borderlands quest)
    Two Handed Sword or Falchion
Other equipment will be picked up in chests and quest rewards ofr off the auction house as you go forward

When you get action points (APs) spend the first ones in Knight of the Chalice tree. You'll want the extra smites.

Get the Two-handed weapon feats (Two-handed fighting at 1st, Improved at 6th, and Greater at 12th), each of them increases your damage and the chance to hit multiple targets. This means, you have to invest in STR foremost, if you start with at least 16 and put your ability score increases into it, you get the necessary Strength for the line.

As you probably don't have any tomes, your other abilities will be mostly be split between a bit of wisdom for spellcasting and charisma for save bonuses. So I guess Power Attack as a 3rd level feat, Improved Critical Slashing as a 9th level feat, and the 15th and 18th level feats are more or less free in your choice. Don't use feats for cleave and greater cleave though, as THF nowadays works well enough without and the Knight of the Chalice enhancement tree has actually both in their own version.
In terms of the first level faith feat, I'd usually go with either Sovereign Host, Blood of Vol, or Olladra. SH and Olladra have good heals, Blood of Vol a viable self-buff at 6th level. You can get Greatswords as favored weapon in KotC.

With THF, you can go to KotC (41 points for capstone) as main-tree and get more defense by putting many points in Sacred Defender (31 to get the lvl 18 core, which helps a lot).

For race, almost everything can run as a paladin, even at first life. From the free races, I'd suggest humans though, as there is no penalty to a usually main attribute, with premium races, I'd suggest the Aasimar, as you can get a quasi-lay on hands, which can be increased to 7 times that will recharge slowly with only 7 Action Points there (so you can have a 41/31/7 +1 point split at 20th level).

Those refer to Paladin "Enhancement Trees", which are bought with "Action Points". As you progress up each level, you earn a total of 4 AP/level, and can spend those on your Enhancments (default <Ctl+r> to bring them up at any time, or you can click on "Enhancements" while visiting a Trainer).

o KotC = Knight of the Chalice: https://ddowiki.com/page/Knight_of_t...e_enhancements
    o SD = Sacred Defender: https://ddowiki.com/page/Sacred_Defender_enhancements

The numbers after the abbreviations refer to which Tier those are found in (0-5), with "0" = the cores. Check out the links and it will make more sense.

    Humdrum ?
"You are a Tiefling. And a Cleric, with the Domain of the Sun. Doesn't that contradict each other ?" "No, all my friends are playing evil. I found that so boring that I decided to be on the good side. And, besides, Sun and Fire, where is the difference, really ?"
