The RC Car Thread

Heya this will be kept off dev tracker cuz it has nothing to do with DDO, but I'm curious how many of us out there are also into RC cars? Figure if there are enough of us maybe we can have a trading/discussion/whatever group. My current beast is a Granite BLX 3S, but I also bash the skatepark on a Voltage Granite, and have a couple others for fun. Not to mention another handful that are parts cars nowadays. Anyone else?

I don't do RC cars, but I am looking to get into RC fixed wing aircraft and looking forward to this discussion because I know there is a lot of crossover.

Not a car, I have a UK HT 28 Battleship, 31" long. Does about 8 knots.
I am halfway through an overhaul, of retrofitting small nerf guns.
It mainly is used for attracting dust though.

Too many stupid rules with the small lakes and ponds to be able to just drop it in the water and have fun.

I saw one once. And I've watched lots of YouTube vids with RC aircraft.

Closest I get to an RC car is my Automower - tho the controls on that are limited to little more than go, stop, and do ya want looptie-loops with that? .

Being inspired () by the thread, I pulled out the beast of a boat, gave it a nice overhaul, gorilla glued some larger fins on prop (need moar speed).
Borrowed a nice battery pack from friend, and set sail w/ the "SS NEVER SAIL ".

Should have taken a video of the voyage. An accurate replica of behemoth on water going twice as fast as the hull was designed for.


A perfectly flat retention pond the size of a football field. Nice weather and a great day to have fun.

On her 3rd lap I " gave her all she can handle captain ", wow!!!!!!!!! It actually made a wake!
Turns out that wake on that small pond wound up being a tsunami when I was on the return leg.

The bow went up out of the water at least 8", and like a movie in slow-mo the stern started slipping below the water. In less than 2 minutes, she was gone.

The funny part?

I'm in Florida, one doesn't just swim out in these ponds. It's not the critters, it's the law! No swimming, fishing, diving or recreational devices allowed. I could get a fine just for running my boat on there, which is even funnier.

On the bright side, I won't have to dust it off anymore!

My Middle Age Money Pit Hobby (trademark pending) is Warhammer 40k.
I'm just glad that my wife is into as much as I am (she runs Ork, I run either Tau or Tyranid), and she's better at it than I am. So, she is okay with the models being expensive.

If I got myself into RC stuff, my wife may kill me, however.

40k is so friggen expensive as a hobbie, after I got out of it I used the models for tabletop dnd but they are so fragile and ended up getting broken so I moved to rubber models after that.
