Sinvala!!!!!!!

That pesky Black Dragon in Mired in Kobolds, Sinvala, how many HP does she have? I tried solo HC with a level 16 EK Sorcerer (2050 SP) and a Barbarian Lvl 16 Hireling, and a summoned Orthon....I still died! I did manage to get her down to less than 40% HP.

So rare to fight a dragon in DDO, when you get the chance, even if optional...I say do it! it's fun!!!!


I think I gotta boost my Spell Lore before I do it again. Its at 7%, I can Cannith Craft and get it to 12%.

Any suggestion on how to defeat Sinvala, other than a large group?

I believe Sinvala is around CR:30 on Elite, the last time I fought her with my Level 15 Assassin I probably got her down to 50% HP. If I'd had a reliable healing source I probably could have killed her. As a rule I don't bother dealing with the Mother Dragon. Being resistant to Acid damage helps and I'd suspect a Dragon Bane weapon would be useful if mêlée - I was just using generic weapons. Basically you just have to wear her down before she eats you...

ES if you are cowardly or SE+TS if you want to have fun. I was almost bored on live doing r2. I wish she was stronger, as well as all dragons in game need some AI vs perching rangers and DoT kiting spell casters.

An Eye for and eye, A DoT for a DoT ?

They need their Wing Buffets adjusted to knock over ranged characters.

I'm not a caster so haven't used offensive spells against any Dragon. Furthermore a lot of Dragons are 'Red named' so are naturally immune to "instant kill": https://ddowiki.com/page/Named_monst...ul_Named_Enemy.

Sinvala's a boss so she's immune to instant kills, and those spells do very little damage against her.

She has about ~90khps on elite+; ( checked it solo, so party scaling may apply?)

Disintegrate would be very costly (if shooting for average, with no saves). At level 15, circa 400 force damage base is good, metas add 225 for a large cost increase.

Most likely a few saves will occur, there are skeleton archer adds, self buff, heals etc.


Eladar's Electric Surge + Niac's Biting Cold beats disintegrate, and is boostable by ravenloft belt for another +77 spell power, savant trees also give access to higher element spell power than force.

There still do exist Dragon Bane items as random loot, although they are VERY rare.

there is a mechanic in the quest where you can shatter one of the crystals overhead to stun the dragons. given how fast she moves i would guess it's pretty finicky, but could be worth a shot

your best bet against anything you can't overpower is cheap (turn off metas except on SLAs) and/or no save spells - Disintegrate is not a good option because it has a unique save that instead of being for half is essentially for one tenth. a better level 6 spell option is Necrotic Ray: it has a Fortitude save too but it's just save for half, it only costs 10 SP, it does 15.5 damage per level instead of the usual 9.5. for the same reason Polar Ray (no save, 20 SP) at level 8 is a very good choice.

as janave mentioned, Eladar's Electric Surge and Niac's Biting Cold are very strong options both because they're very efficient damage/SP and since they're DoTs you can be doing damage while you're healing / running away, which is important for soloing. you have to be careful though because they're only efficient on the third+ casts, and if you get knocked down mid cast you'll probably lose your stack

It's dangerous because it stuns players, too. About the only good way to do it is to have your tank drag her under the crystal and then stun both of them (as long as someone can heal the tank while they're stunned.)
