Default Am I missing something> Ghost Touch crafting (Possible Rant)

I am level 307 crafter... I can make a bound level 1 Ghost Touch shard easy, with standard components. To make an UNBOUND one, it takes level 400 (!), plus 5 planar talismans, 10 purified ED fragments, and probably my firstborn!!!!

How can this be right? That's nothing less than totally STUPID.

If it is right, can anyone please explain the rationale behind this?

On a guess, I'd say they don't want ghost touch easily available across the board.

If memory serves, ghost touch is a level 250 shard bound, unbound it would be 400. 250 is a commitment to reach, 400 even more so. To be able to craft it for yourself takes dedication. For others? Even more so.

Many people who craft for others require them to bring the rare comps...

I ask people to bring an idea, and i'll supply the collectables, do the crafting and will also supply the blank too.

It's not about Ghost Touch, it's about bound versus unbound. Everything is much, much harder unbound than bound.

It's probably easier for the person you're trying to help to level up to 250 themselves than for you to level up to 400.

Or, alternatively, unless you are on Wayfinder, I'm sure there are lots of maxed-out crafters on your server; someone else can do the unbound crafting for your friend.

I think you are probably correct, at the time they revamped crafting. Clearly, that philosophy has changed, since you can get ML 2 ghost touch weapons for character with 1-2 Borderlands runs now.

Also, yes, unbound crafting costs are unreasonably high in all cases.

I figured it had more to do with preventing something from flooding the economy. It's not just Ghost Touch but imagine the creation of Crafted gear which might not be the BiS but fills a niche in the "golf bag"

At its current cost it makes it worth helping someone out, but not really worth it to make it a core money maker.

Keep in mind the ML2 Ghost Touch in boarderlands are bound and also cheap (I think to encourage thinking them as only temporary)

It's explained by your description being disingenuous.*

(* which, for those who don't know, is a fancy way of saying "You're being deceptive and you (should) know it". No disingenuity on my part here (which, btw, is not really a word). )

No one can make a "bound Level 1 Ghost Touch shard". A GT shard is Crafting Level 250.

The fact that one can make a Minimum Level 1 shard, apply it to an item, and then apply that CL 250 shard to that ML 1 item and have a Minimum Level 1 Ghost Touch item has nothing to do with the fact that the shard was CL 250.

So, as with any other shard, when you make it unbound it gains +150 Crafting Levels. And (last I checked) 250+150 = 400.

Does that explain it clearly enough?

Not at all. It's like you completely missed the very first line in his post, "I am level 307 crafter." How is that disingenuous?

    Sure we can.

So? You do realize that crafting level is not the same as minimum level of the item you're crafting, right?

Crafting in DDO is the same as farming that piece of gear. Lots of effort and patience. If someones follows the guides, being able to craft yourself some nice goodies is pretty easy albeit expensive. Probably easier and less effort to help someone craft than crafting unbound. However when you finally get to the I can craft myself everything you don't have any ingredients left!!!
Just awestruck, whether it be a Dragon flying overhead Stormreach, that glowing character who just zoomed in'n'out of the Pub or that I can drink a Beholder under the table and best of all rescuing Damsels in distress.

    Character. Alivef was 1 x heroic completionist now I need Alchemist (+I have few more heroic pl's) 1 x epic completionist, 1 iconic Shadar Kai x 3. Gnome+Drow x3 racial pl's.

True. I still have some old btc ML 1 oozebeaters from the old system. There were valid pros and cons for both.
