    Default LF Occult Slayer build!

    Hi All,

I am having fun with barb now and I thought - Ok, let's make a barb that will be tanky with 2h weapon.

Can someone drop me a build or explain what to sacrifice in enchancements for other enchancements?

For example - In Ravager tree, I can see some cool looking enchancements like Furious Rage, Pain Touch, Barbarian Power Attack, Hardy Rage, Ritual Scarring, Cruel Cut. But that is a lot of points and I might not get some cool looking dodge/magic resistance/phys resistance in Occult.

Can someone drop me what should I go for and what dump as it is just bad? My general idea is like this: Max Occult for fun tanky stuff there > Then pump DMG as much as I can from FB > if possible, add any boosts from Ravager.

Is there any combination I can do? or it's more like > max out Occult > go to FB with all points left?

I played a dwarf con-based occult slayer for quite some time. Tanky isn't really the right word as it doesn't have tanky defenses, but a ton of hp and it works super well with silver flame potions since it doesn't impact your DPS much (just a little bit "to hit".)

Basic idea is to take "Throw your weight around" in the dwarf tree along with occult slayer tier 5 and capstone. You want cleave and to help out your rages with other trees plus a little more hamp.

You will end up with a sky high spell resistance and some nice defenses combined with loads of hp. Max con put at least 16 to strength to start - all level ups, enhancements, etc. to con.

Making good use of silver flame pots requires min stats of 11 but preferably higher. Your cleaves and special attacks are unaffected by the silver flame potion speed penalty.

TYWA is a newbie's trap, don t got that way unless you got tons of free AP from RTR and tomes
I got decent build as a 41 Occult Slayer for capstone/ 39 Ravager for T5

It worked really good for me to solo almost any quest on reaper with it all the way to 30 without a bunch of past lifes and reaper points. And the key for me is that it works without a bunch of past lifes and reaper points - and in fact worked great for me despite not having those things.

It's not as good of dps as the 41/39 split which I've also run, but it's higher survivability so it's a better balanced build for a character without a ton of past lifes/reaper points and it allows me to raise skull level compared to 41/39 and to complete a few more dungeons I couldn't otherwise run. The DPS is also really solid and the trade-off is a good one in my opinion if you want to run difficult content without numerous past lifes. It also is very strong starting with life #2 with out any other past lifes and with just a +5 con tome from life #1.

    AP Split is

    Dwarf: 18 AP
Occult Slayer: 41 (Capstone and Tier 5)
Ravager: 7: (Hardy Rage Barbarian Power Attack)
Frenzied Berzerker: 14 (Supreme Cleave, Frenzy)

The downside is the use of silver flame potions but I am very used to running those from the time that was the only way for a barbarian to solo, but those take inventory slots. It's also best to store a bunch when you TR so they are available before you get silver flame 400 favor the next life. You also need at least 11 stat with ship buffs and gear and preferably higher. It's the only build that can really use the silver flame potions without hurting dps.

The plus side is it's so hard to kill while still clearing dungeons fast, but Blood Strength and knock-down immunity from tier 5 ravager are really good to have.

Each player has to figure out what works best for them, but I don't agree it's a "newbie"trap" based on how great it worked for me. Other than choice of stat point raises a player can try out both splits and see what works best. I would really miss the supreme cleave and all the extra hp the most with 41/39, but with enough reaper points it offsets the hp problem so then I might want to go 41/39 for the extra dps with all those extra hp. Without the reaper points and past lifes - I like the throw-your-weight-around build alot.

Posting your build or a link to it would be help for the original poster.

Occult slayer is not as good in reality as is it is on paper. Their just isnt enough dps in the tree nor defenses to really make it viable. If you have dedicated healer you always run with and you are just the front meat sack with a bunch of hp then i guess it could work.

But for general leveling lets say r4 or lower stuff soloing especially or even grouping ravager is just way stronger. Blood strength is some of the best healing game. Just gather a **** ton of mobs until you have dungeon alert and starting cleaving and the haeling comes in way faster then the dmg. The only thing that really slows you down from time to time isnplague reapers since your healing is reduced to zero so blood tribute then is useless. But dor the most part i wouldnt level a barb in anything but tier 5 ravager.

Now at cap in r6+ blood strenghts power is reduced becasue in coming dmg can be more than the healing your getting so tier 5 fb is better.

Races i would use are half orc if you just going for top notch dps, aasmir is good because their loh can be used while raged, and dwarf is good for boatloads of hp.

IF you want an Occult Slayer build, then I think CON-based dwarf using greataxes is your best option, because CON is your damage, HP, Fortitude, and Spell Resistance (OS capstone) stat all in one. Note you still need STR for to-hit but since you need STR 17 for GTHF and Rage will boost your STR, that's not as much of a concern. As far as APs go, something like 18 dwarf / 21 Berserker / 41 OS. If you decide you prefer Ravager to OS, no problem: Visage of Terror's DC is also based on CON so just swap OS for Ravager. Also note that the HP bonus from OS's Bond of Destruction doesn't stack with dwarf's Child of the Mountain, so take one or the other, not both.

I would change the heroic feat order: THF (1), Power Attack (3), ITHF (6), IC:Slash (9), GTHF (12), Cleave (15), Gt Cleave (18)

I have a level 23 first life pure barb with the Occult Capstone & t5. Honestly, it's way stronger than I think it gets credit for. I'm using greataxe as my weapon so it has a better crit profile than what I could get with Ravanger or Frenzied & a HUGE "oh ****" heal + an extra 10% HP.

The capstone is pretty meh unless you go Con-based but you do get a ton of survivability.

Heads up - the t5 skill that gives you temp-hp on-hit is broken. Don't take it. It's a total waste of skillpoints.

I've been rocking the 'fake tank' build in hardcore and I've only died once each life: once in precious cargo trap (4,5k dmg!) and once to all the wraths in cogs in epic hard while off-destiny. I've been fake-tanking r4s with ease, 15 rp so far - and 5960 favour.

The important thing about Occult Slayer is to remember you're not a real tank, you're fake tank but the best fake tank there is. I took 41 in occult, 8 in frenzy for blood tribute and 31 in ravager. I run first, hit blood tribute and intimidate while my party sets up tentacles/holds and kills everything. But you gotta remember, fake tank is not a solo build, it's a party build. You don't do real damage, heck sometimes I even equip a tower shield and shield block. Mostly run with blackrazor though - hoping to fill it with blood feast, its a great 5 piece to hit even as a switch! In sentinel I get about 4k+ hp, in crusader 3k+. I can't even imagine what this will look like with proper gear

Regarding crit profile Occult is actually best with a falchion in terms of crit profile DPS. Greataxe is only superior for Ravager because of the 20/x3 profile works best with the threat range +2. GA work "okay" in Occult but it isn't the best.

Now if you are using Carnifex, then Occult is actually optimal

Yeah, I know. I just think Falchions look goofy so I don't like using them. No better reason than that.
