Default + 8 Tome of Supreme Ability

Since it is 50% discount now I wonder if it is worth buying it, compared to +5 tomes available in game for free(favor)? Have some spare points. Wonder, since I see most value in tomes, when they cover feats stat pre-requires, and +5 itself applies pretty late, at 11lvl, and +6 at level 15, and I don't see much value in +7 at 19lvl and +8 at 22lvl. But on other side having +3 to all stats looks pretty solid

If you are interested in doing end game, then yea, the difference in stats is considerable and you wont have to waste time farming 5k favor for +5 tomes. Leveling from 1-30 and doing most quests at cap for rxp gets me about 3.5k favor....that leaves 1.5k favor that you would have to farm for the purpose of favor, multipled by 6 times for each ability.

From what I heard, at one point tomes were much more common in drops but thats obviously not true anymore so I wouldnt try to upgradet hem that way.

    No.

Since they changed tomes lvl cap (+8 at 22) it's obvious sooner or later new ones will come. Soon character lvl cap is going to be raised with new expansion and ssg will look for the things they could add to expansion bundles. If you ask me i'm 90% sure +9 tomes will be intruduced with new expansion and right now ssg is trying to sell currently available tomes to as many people as they can before they'll try to sell next ones. Judging from current trends it'll be much cheaper to buy +9 base than +8 then 8>9 upgrade, so i say: no, thanks.

Of course final decision is yours, all i can say is that at the beginning i thought "what a great sale" and after thinking a bit why they're selling all tomes (if i'm correct usually highest tomes were not included in sales and im pretty sure never highest available stat tomes were on 50% sale) i decided to not buy them and wait for expansion.

With that attitude one would never buy anything in the hope that something better comes along later. With a 50% sale I would also guess that the "cheaper to buy +9 instead of upgrade" argument may not be accurate.

The question that the OP needs to answer is if he is planning to play end game, or really anything last level 22, because if he is just doing 1-20 then +8 tomes are pointless. Otherwise they are a good investment.

Well, i'm not forcing anyone to do as i do, i just shared my point of view and reasons why i decided it's not worth buying.

"cheaper" argument is 100% accurate if you'll do very basic math. For example if you would buy +7 tome now (922 ddo points on 50% sale) and 7>8 upgrade at full price (1295) it gives you 2217 ddo points and exactly the same situation will occur if you believe tomes +9 will be introduced (assuming you'll buy +8 now at 50% sale you'll have to buy upgrade ones at full price, cause sales for the newest stuff is never in first year/two/three after releasing). +8 tome without sale is 2045 ddo points and it means you lose 172 points on each tome (and there's 6 of them) if you buy base 7 and upgrade instead of base 8 and no upgrades. The difference is higher with each tier of tomes, so buying directly +9 tome might save you even 200+ points each tome (but buying in bundle might also make it smaller). Of course it's a good deal if op really needs better tomes now, but if he's not in hurry it might be a good idea to wait a bit.

Well, I already done 4 of 6 +5 tomes, after all quest went free, and it was really annoying after 2 first runs, cant make myself for 2 more, hehe. Now i think same, getting +8 in order not to do 5k runs

Pretty interesting point of view. But yeah, think I will bot buy +9 for full price, id rather get +8 for 50%. Ahh new expansion means new gear farming. And i just ended RL and Sharn runs Still waiting for Sharn to go on sale. Got RL year ago on winters sale.

Yes, doing Iconincs run atm (found out lately, after 2 years of active playing, u get 2 feats for Iconic TR. I am not too smart ) Its 4th Iconic life atm for me. Have around 20 with heroic TRs and ETRs.

Think I will w8 to see if there is going to be sale next week, and buy +8 tome and Iconic Aasimar if nothing to fancy comes after, because its all my 3.5k i have atm. Actually what i am missing is Iconic Gnome and Dragonborn, and its not likely to come on sale any time soon, got other Races\Classes(except Alchemist and Iconic Aasimar and Dragonborn) which i think is priority to get if u get them on sale like me.

Wait, +8 Tome of Supreme Ability with 50% cost 2872. And if I understand it correctly it increases all 6 abilities to 8, not just one, correct?

i think the same. my main has supreme +7 and i'm just waiting for +9. i bet it will be cheaper than go thru upgrades to 8 and then 9, no matter the sales.

The trick to earning 5000 favor is to get 2 epic past lives. You level from 1 to 30, do an epic TR, then level from 20 to 30 again. I have gotten 5000 favor well over a dozen times (these days I get over 6000 favor a life). You won't even notice yourself having to try to get 5000 favor. When heroic leveling you simply play those quests that have no epic option (i.e. quests that have a heroic level, but don't have any epic version). This saves all or most of the quests that do have an epic option for epic levels. Simply play only quests you have never ran before (which is always a good idea since you get first-time bonuses that way) and you will effortlessly get 5000 favor as you earn your two epic past lives.

That said, now is the time to get the +8 supreme tome. I earned a full set of +5 tomes and then later purchased a +8 supreme tome (the first and only stat tome I have ever purchased). While the extra +3 to each stat isn't huge, there is a lot of game that comes after level 11 when +5's stop increasing and you get some additional skill points to spend during your level ups if your intelligence continues to grow beyond level 11.

Someone made the point that +9 tomes are probably coming and they are right. That is indeed one the main reasons I never bought a stat tome in the past. They keep making newer ones with higher stats. But that philosophy means you will never buy a stat tome ever. I went 10 years without purchasing a stat tome and if I kept that mindset I would simply never buy one and never have higher stats. It's like never buying a cell phone of any kind ever because you know they will just make a better one each year. Eventually you give in and get a decent cell phone at a decent price. A supreme +8 stat tome will last you forever (you don't really need +9 or +10 tomes, especially since they won't kick in until level 25 and 28 most likely) and the +8 to all stats will serve you well.

Well, whether it's worth it depends on how you play. I'm definitely going to grab it because my main is on a static TR team so he gets a ton of play. And switches class a lot so wants all stats at one point or another. Also depends on your DDO points. I'm VIP so get a chunk a month, and don't spend much at the store normally so I have a decent stockpile.

If you like to play different characters might not be as worth it

I chose not to purchase the +8 Supreme Tome.

A +9 or even +10 Supreme Tome will probably come out with, or shortly after, the next expansion. If past experience holds, the +9/+10 Supreme Tome will go on sale for 50% off about three months after it appears and remain the best for a year or two.

While a +8 Supreme Tome would offer my avatar a drastic power increase, I cannot justify the purchase given past experience. I will catch the new tome at the beginning of its release cycle, rather than this tome at the end of its cycle.

Guess you do not have a DC kind of caster or assassin that needs the DC to work today. Most melees don't need the DC because even mediocre melees can hit the DC for dire charge.

True. They need to come up with a supreme tome that works on any character and any new character you create on any server. Sort of like an account based supreme tome.

    It's definitely worth the buy.

Any character that I have been serious about developing has gotten a top out Tome of Supreme Ability at some point. Characters that I just play for the play value don't get it. I would not put one on an HCL character for instance because I am not going to play that character after the HCL in question is over.

For me, it'd depend on what level of tomes the character already has - going up to a +8 from a +5 or lower is a significant boost, but having only a net extra +1 beyond that at a much higher price isn't something that'd concern me too much.

Can also be worth bearing in mind that a +X supreme tome is a single tome that upgrades all the stats, while a +X to +(X+1) upgrade tome doesn't add +1 to all the stats at once but gives 6 tomes that each give +1 to a single stat, meaning you could share it out among multiple characters & focus on having the primary stat maxed while the others simply aren't quite as high.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.
