    Angry applying patches is agonizing

so this has been happening more and more frequently when updating the game.

when attempting to update, it constantly fails and has to go into 2 instances of a 1 minute retry time. it will recover and then download as few as 2 and as many as 200 patches and then fail again. it fails with the following messages:
    - unknown Error:E_FAIL
    - just a generic an update error occurred.
    - unknown error: 0xfffffffff80043038

i have been attempting to update the game for going on 8 hours now. it is becoming...frustrating.

i have tried using a proxy server which does not work for me, it never makes it past installing prereqs. i have also tried doing this on both the steam version and non steam version, both perform the same. finally, i have tried adjusting the download speed of the patches in the options settings to all available settings.

powered off the router and or modem and let them sit for a few mins then turn them back on?
turned your computer off and back on, not into sleep/hibernate etc
    using dndlauncher.exe
    ran it once as administator
checked your firewall in windows to see if its blocked
    checked router/modem firewall if any
checked antivirus to see if its blocking/delaying timing out etc
checked any 3rd party security software, nortons, etc (there was some other one I cannot remembed the name of, that blocked ALL connections unless you approved them. Sometimes people "miss" that the game is not connecting to ddo.com, but instead to akamai, or similar, so it gets blocked)
copy ddo install folder to usb and then copy to a different computer just to see if its your computer that is the problem
bypass any home router and plug directly into your isp modem to see if its a router problem
    ip dns flush, google it
check dns settings inside windows, and inside router if possible, make sure they aren't anything weird, try changing to popular public dns, etc
move your computer to a different location with different internet connection, see if it works there, etc
is your clock set correctly? try setting it to eastern usa time, remember to change it back
check some of the other threads with the same problem posted recently, maybe there's something in there that would help
