"Must buy" Summer Sails

Hey forum,
Wondering if it'd be useful to have a place to discuss which deals are "must snag while on sail errr..sale"

For week 1 I bought falconry. Debating on getting a character slot or two, gnome, and maybe one xp tome... curious how others feel about these deals.

Gnome is a good deal. Falconry is probably worth it considering the amount of favor you need to get to earn it in-game. XP tomes are a godsend if you plan on reincarnating a few times. Character slots depend entirely on you...how much loot you want to bank, how much alt-itis you have.

To be honest i don't think it'll be useful, cause almost everything on 50-75% sale is worth buying, cause the biggest possible discout you can get in remaining 10 months is 30% (and not for everything, i dont even remember when was last races/classes sale).

Of all of them, I'd'a said to NOT buy this, and just earn it for your main alt. Lots of good builds out there, you can earn it free and pretty easy during a ER. (Unless you want it for all your alts, across all servers - that's a diff discussion, and then buying it is pro'ly the way to go.)

As Matuse pointed out, very much ymmv. If you (will) have a lot of BTA items, maybe, sure - but that's a LOT.

You can get 3 x 140 slots for free for non-bound items by starting a free alt account. Recommended at the price (and it lets you play w/ alternative (F2P) builds.

Character slots come on sale a couple times a year. Not this deep, but still. Of all of them, this one could pro'ly wait.

Gnome comes on sale maybe once a year, maybe every other year. If you have a burning need, yes - but if you aren't blazing through RR's and don't have a specific Gnome build that you want NEXT... you could wait. With all the class reincarnations and all the racial and Iconics, there are always other builds.

You say "maybe one"... would the alternative be "none", or "more than one"? What I'm asking is - do you have more than one "main" character that you're thinking about? If so (and I do, btw), I'd suggest you reconsider how much you want to invest in "secondary main characters". Consider focusing on just one, and remember that there will be probably* be 4 more sales in the next 4 weeks.

(* Last Friday of the month falls on the 31st, and SSG has previously honored any and all "partial weeks", making this event 5 weeks long; I expect that to be one last sale week, but I'm not making the decsions.)

I'm pretty casual player, and have several alts. I'm not willing to buy the other universal trees, but falconry takes more effort and is "per character", so decided I'd just buy it rather than farm it for a bunch of characters. Plus I think I might try some sort of falconry build on hardcore league.

As you've suggested, the main question this week is how much do people want to invest in alts (as that's what this week seems focused on the most). The xp tome, I'd probably buy just 1 to top off what I'd consider one of my "main alts"

Just 6 points into Falconry gets you a run speed boost that's pretty great. If you're on a class that doesn't get a run speed boost in its own trees, that's a solid investment while leveling.

The greater heroic XP tome is pretty nice if you have one main and you're going to TR multiple times.

Don't buy more character slots. That will just tempt you into making more mules and/or more alts and that's not what DDO is about anymore, unfortunately.

Falconry's not bad on sale, if you have an intent to use it....while its earnable in-game the process is pretty prohibitive

Races and classes are the big thing after that, especially if its a relevant RPL for your favorite playstyle. You'll want to "collect them all" eventually though

EDs would be the other thing now that MotU Bundle isnt the only way to get MotU anymore.

Only must buy here is Falconry. The sprint boost is the best thing in the game for reincarnation. One day they'll understand how good it is and it'll get nerfed, I think doing favor for Falconry is a total waste of time. Buying it is best because it unlocks it for everything.

Gnome is the next best thing but it's not must have because it won't go on almost everything you do like Falconry's sprint boost will.

Actually I would say the opposite. While alts were always a waste of time, the amount of BtA equipment sets the game has now has finally broken my will and made me buy a mule to store them. I hate having to use mules (we just need more space on our main characters), but it is far too frustrating trying to TR without having to throw out most of the gear I have farmed. Even with just Ravenloft, Sharn, and Soul Splitter there are too many gear sets to store without mules.

Considering the Hardcore seasons end with transfers, I would suggest buying character slots at half-off.
