    Exclamation Launcher error... failure to LAUNCH!

    Hi all,

    I click the launcher, see a command box flash on the screen, and the Launcher fails to launch. Try running as admin, get a question box to allow changes, but same flash and no Launcher.

    Worked just a few days ago... windows 10 PC.

    Any helpful suggestions?

    Not much info to go on. Could be any number of things. Have you updated drivers recently? Windows version update? New hardware?

    Try taking a look in the Windows Event Viewer (start menu, search for event viewer, open, select 'Windows Logs' in the left panel, then select 'Application' and scroll down until you get to the time when you tried to launch) and see if it gives you an error notice for when you tried to open the launcher. If you're seeing the black command prompt window pop and disappear, there will most likely be an entry.

    Also, try to open the launcher directly from the install directory if you normally use a desktop shortcut.

    Got it fixed by complete uninstall and re-install. The HARD way for sure, but it worked.

    I've had this same problem, so figured would just bump this rather than make a new topic.

    Recently installed the game via steam
    Upon running for the first time it will open the patching client (or whatever you want to call that app)
    It downloads/installs all the remaining files, dats, dll's etc
    Then just closes
    Try to hit play again via Steam and....nothing

    Have tried;
    Restarting
    Running DNDLauncher directly from the DDO folder as Admin (same outcome as just double clicking or chosing to play the game from the Steam client, loading cursor for a second then nothing)
    Running TurbineLauncher as Admin (command box flashes briefly, nothing else happens)
    Set firewall to allow both DNDLauncher.exe and TurbineLauncher.exe
    Ran dxwebsetup
    Ran directx_Jun2010_redist
    Downloaded ddolive.exe and ran the Repair option
    Uninstall/reinstall (same outcome as above, client will finish downloading all the remaining files the first time then wont do anything else)
    Checked Error Log - nothing is there (no error gets recorded at the time when I try to run the game)
    Checked TaskManager - no application running
    Swearing. Lots of swearing. It's ineffective but has so far been the most satisfying option.

    Nope, not running - checked Task Manager in addition to looking for icons etc
    Yep, ran the offline direct x from microsoft
    No log files in Documents/Dungeons and Dragons Online except for user preferences.
    I copied that then removed it and tried to run with that file gone (to see if it would force the game to do something) but no change to the way it operates
    (i.e. no response except for a brief flicker of a commond box when I open the TurbineLauncher using admin authority

    Edit: Actually, I should check something.
    The offline direct x - I should be installing that where?
    When I run it after downloading it asks me to identify the folder to place the files in
    I have assumed I'm meant to be putting it in my D:/Games/DDO folder - however looking back over the various fix solutions offered I couldn't find one that says where to place these files.

    Is it correct to be chosing the game folder, or are they meant to go elsewhere?

    Edit 2: Sorry that was a stupid question.
    Of course it doesnt matter, it's an installer you run after downloading and extracting, it wont care where the files are dumped before installing.

    Ok, I've extracted the offline installer to its own folder and ran the offline installer DXSETUP.exe again.
    I accept the liscencing agreement, click on next and it does its "search for existing, copying files, etc" then click finish
    It's fairly quick to run now (presumably since everything has been installed) takes maybe a minute - it took a bit longer the first time.

    I check Event Viewer for any records around the time I run the launcher under Windows Logs > Applications
    This time I do have this around the time I tried to launch "The VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout." however it seems unrelated as it wouldn't duplicate the next time I tried opening (tried a few times)
    There was also this under the System tab of the Windows Logs around the time I tried to run the launcher twice;

    As for logs in the DDO folder, where would I look?
    It doesnt have any kind of Error or Log subfolder
    Theres a troubleshooting folder but that just contains a DXSETUP installer

    Hi Mindos,

    Tried both of these without any luck
    Downloaded and ran the x64 one first - then tried to run the DNDLauncher (as admin) - did it's normal brief 'think' and nothing else happened
    Then did the same with the x86 one, same outcome

    I've tried 2 of these;
    VaultofKundarak - followed the links and downloaded the .zip, but after xtracting there's no installer or launcher
    There weren't really any instructions so I'm sure I'm just messing this up somehow

    DDO-ML - this has given me the most success so far, or rather at least it gave me an error.
    "HTTP Post Failed. Error 500: Internal server Error"

    I downloaded it and followed the instructions.
    In the DDO-ML.xml I can put in my account name and password (I changed nothing else) .
    Upon opening the launcher I select my DDO folder, and I have tried using 2 different servers (Khyber, Thelanis)
    Both give me the Server error when I click on my Nambuk account to launch the game

    Edit: Shoot, will DDo-ML even be an option when I havent even been able to create a character yet?
    I've never even gotten into the game so I dont have a character yet to fill some of these out
    Was hoping it might at least be able to take me into the character creation screen or something

    It was located at;
    D:\Games\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Dungeons and Dragons Online
    I've moved to just;
    D:\Dungeons and Dragons Online
    But no change

    Nope, no log files get created in the directory (searched the main and sub folders)
    DDO-ML gives me Error 500

    No luck with compatability - tried all of the options (Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP)

    I appreciate the help, at the end of the day if I just need to call it quits it's fine
    Its gotten to the point now where it's less "Dammit I want to play the game" and more "Dammit why cant I figure out what is wrong with this stupid thing"

    I don't know. Hmmm. http://live.ddo.com/sites/clientdl/ddo/ddolive.exe Maybe uninstall the game, from steam, and/or any other installs you've done. And download it directly from that link. Installing into it's default directory. And try all over again. Delete the Dungeons and Dragon folder in your Documents folder as well before you start over. Let's try to make this as clean an install as we can, no steam, no leftover files, no settings in the my documents folder, etc.

    Check the bios of the computer to make sure it's using the correct graphics card. Sometimes it defaults to integrated cpu graphics instead of a dedicated graphics card. Check the nvidia/amd settings app, see if there's anything trying to run DDO odd, or maybe the default nvidia/amd app settings are trying to launch the game with some odd default settings, etc.

    The fact that you SAW the launcher, because you saw the launcher update files is odd that you NOW can't see the launcher? Just a brief flash of a black command prompt window? https://help.standingstonegames.com/...-the-launcher-

    So you don't see the launcher at all now? Or you do see the launcher and when clicking a world, and play then everything goes away? If you can see the launcher, try the options page of the launcher, reset display settings, then click ok. Don't tick reset display then click repair button, just click OK button at bottom. If that doesn't work, then try the repair button. If that doesn't work, try the above full reinstall, deleting the dungeons and dragon folder in My Documents folder. Or try just deleting the userpreferences.ini file in the same folder.

    That lack of log files is odd. It sounds like you're clicking a shortcut that isn't linking to the right location, maybe from moving folders around? That's why I suggest just starting over, not from steam, but the download link above and deleting the dungeons and dragon folder located in the My Documents folder.
