    Default Melee OP

Is it just me, or have any other ranged builds noticed that the melee's are now crushing content?

I'm just asking because while running R-10's last night, I would click NHB....and before I would fire a shot, everything would be dead.

I know everyone playing melee were screaming for changes, but I think just like the hammering of ranged builds, Inquisitive in particular that were so overpowered...running last night I watched a Melee in the portrait end fight with Strahd...And, he was crushed (in seconds) before I even fired a single shot at his ugly mug. Even on my best (in R-10) I was unable to solo the portrait fight. And somehow my Inquisitive Xbow user is overpowered?!?!

Maybe I'm just having sour grapes. But if the complaint that ranged inquisitive builds were waltzing through content, SSG should take a hard look at what the changes you have made have wrought.

    I think it's just you.

Are the in a good place, better for sure, maybe good depending on the build, but are the OP. Nope and I say that as someone who still doesn't play melee as often as I'd like to. Plenty of other builds can dominate. Could just be the particular melee's you are running with as there will always be "that one guy/gal" who outperforms the average by a large margin.

The melee you saw you probably has some or all of the following (and more):

    • Best in slot gear / raid gear.
    • Tomes out the wazoo!
    • Past lives out the wazoo!
    • Consuimables out the wazoo! (like pots of various sorts to boost Melee Power etc).
    • Other stuff I can't think of.

Some players are very very good at building strong characters, it's just the way it is.

I think that the pendulum has swung back towards melee, but it is not out of control.

I have both an inquisitive and a melee paladin at cap with comparable gear sets (most of the common good stuff for their respective builds, but both could still use a piece of raid gear or two to fully optimize). The paladin feels stronger to me right now, but not a lot.

Inquisitive is definitely not what it was, and I agree that the delay on NHB is annoying as heck. I have experienced the same thing you have, and if I don't anticipate the situation well, I waste a lot of NHB charges.

It would be so nice if the devs would scale the delay down a bit. They have shown that they can make tweaks like this (see recent change to Confront Any Foe); maybe they could make the delay only 1 second or something.

I'm on a melee life and I noticed the opposite.

I don't have time to get to the mobs they get shot to bits before I can take a swing at them so I don't even have a guess how good/bad my build is.
You nerfed my monks, throwers, dailies and alchemists.
I hardly play anymore, found a better hobby.
    Thank You!

First, I guess I have not stated my issue correctly. Or maybe I'm understating it. So here it is:

About the delay: ENTIRE ROOMS ARE DEAD BE4 THE FIRST SHOT FIRES! I would also add here that I am well versed in ranged toons. I know how to anticipate fights.

About the OP-ness of melee: ON R-10: ENTIRE ROOMS ARE DEAD BE4 a 3 SEC (or 2 sec or whatever they claim) DELAY OCCURS!

R-10 Doom Reapers Crushed in <3 secs! I NEVER saw that kind of DPS on my Inquisitive, and had my ranged build HAMMERED by players screaming that they were OP.

I'm just wondering has anyone else seen this?

    Thanks

    My first thoughts are:

Bugged 10hp enemies in place of actual numbers on R10.

    Or

Bugged Damage Boosts (ala the old stacking damage bug on weapons and arrows) done to the extreme.

Given the many issues with Reaper lately, I'm not sure which one I'd go for more as the likely candidate.

Thelanis: Pocket-Monks: Sightblur, Peashoote, Jigglypath, Jedinja.
Invisible Fences, unkillable Target Practice Dummy's, Shared Bank's, Pale Lavender Ioun Stones, the dimensional barrier between Eberron and Shavarath, I've broken them all...

Thanks for the response. I think what u need is some sprint boost. Don't worry you will make it to the fights (assuming ur in a dungeon and NOT doing explorer kills)

Now I don't know this for a fact because I'm not playing his toon. But I'm pretty sure nothing shady is going on here. I have seen similar results from different players playing DPS melee build utilizing 2HF and TWF to similar effect. Please note that what I observed is 2HF DPS output seemed higher(at least in the speed that mobs went down).

Additionally, I can attest to the HP of the mobs as for at least some of them I was able to highlight. And for the mobs that one-shot my toon last night after I managed to stick a Hunt's End bolt into for 5k damage...those mobs were summarily crushed by the melee...

    Thanks again..

I don't think the players are being shady either. It is what it is. Now the devs on the other hand... They had to know this was going to happen, right? I think someone told them hypothetically what just might happen and it seems to have come true. But instead of pointing fingers, what are some solutions? (and conversely, we must ask, is this a problem? i.e., do we need a solution?)

    1. Change Maul of Silvanus away from an always on toggle. Give it a cooldown, or lessen its impact, etc. Not a good answer, nerfs are not liked.

    2. Change Wiz/Sorc Eldritch Knight tree to more reward pure wiz/sorc and reduce the power given to splashes. Again, the playerbase will be upset.

    3. Reduce Strikethrough effectiveness with +W attacks? Might make fights different, as more mobs alive per second might mitigate full offense dps, I don't know. This isn''t a good solution either since it was just introduced.

    4. https://ddowiki.com/page/Confront_Any_Foe Change this again, make it only proc itself, only once instead of 3 times, and only on one monster at a time. Increase the cooldown drastically? Adjust so it hits once with 10d10 and scale that hit with melee power instead of a triple hit like now? Just reduce the power scaling? Every answer is a nerf, and everyone will be upset.

    5. Limit turn undeads somehow, either total, or regen rate, or increase cooldown between uses, effectively the same as increase Confront any Foe's cooldown. How many Turn Undeads can you run around with? Maybe make it so that they don't replenish fully at shrines, but instead like the Pale Lav stone you only get a partial return? You could still have the same damage, but would have to be more judicious about when and how often? What about all the ways to regen them overtime? Make Confront any Foe use more then one charge of Turn Undead per use?

There's no good answers. Devs nerfed ranged, and buffed melee like "we the players" requested. What's next, Tier 3 monsters building upon the Tier 2 introduced from Sharn? Harder and harder content, inflation basically? There's no good answers here. More nerfs is the only sensible outcome in a crazy dev created world. Is this the new normal? Is this the SSG business strategy? Buff melee players, buff ranged, buff casters, rotate throughout the year, keeping players engaged? Like I said, the Devs know what they are doing. The trouble is, no one else knows what that is. I'm not sure what good feedback even is anymore. Myself and others noticed Inquis was horrible unbalance before release, but it lingered and lasted. Now melee has repeated the pattern.

Sometimes I feel like a fish on a hook, getting reeled through a maze.

Will agree it's like what Mindos is talking about then, and nothing weird and exploit of mechanics in game then. Although I will note that OP doesn't actually list that you were aware already that there's nothing really amiss, only that you're more shocked that melee has reached such a point.

Although, I'll agree with Mindos, that there's probably a point where such output of dps will be drawn back depending on what was being used and "fixes" applied. Since I can guarantee you that such numbers are not what the Devs intended, certainly not for R10.

You were prob running with some melee that have it all. The whole kit and kabudle. I just ran some r10s a few days ago with melee that were struggling mightily getting one shot quickly. Really depends on the player and the past lives. Generally still in r10s some melee are struggling with being one shot. Where as inquis still good dps but not getting anywhere near mobs. I feel melee in better spot but any build i the hands of full tilt player is rampaging r10s. Just ran full group of pms doing newcomers and black and blue and it was insanely easy. Not a single melee in group. Even thentank was wizzie. Think twf now is in badplace tho. Strikethru is so powerful really no need to not thf.

Come on Souless, you could just mention my name as the melee who crushed that portrait yesterday. You're complaining about a stars aligned character in the hands of a dedicated melee player. This isn't the norm, and certainly isn't OP.

To those interested in the portrait fight Soul is talking about:

Melee, ranged, caster are all OP and should all be nerfed!

No one in this thread is screaming at all. Hyperbole isn’t needed.
