I trust Fire, so I can believe what he wrote in the threads that Cordovan quickly closed.

Theorising here - could someone completely random have a name very similar to Firegoddess and just was doing some character admin, deleting an unwanted toon and recreating, however during the deletion/creation the server coughed and ended up deleting or swapping both the original player's and this player's toon?

Maybe someone else, not forum savvy, is now wondering why he suddenly has a maxed out toon in his/her roster! Or is keeping quiet about it as they are scared of being called a hacker.

    Either way It sucks

Can't blame SSG really without more details I think.

Something is fishy. How the **** does a character get reset on the account while one is playing a different character? My knowledge is limited but my logic is not. Trying to understand. Either way I'd be ****ed too but also SSG is pretty good with customer service with my experience. I've heard the opposite of course but in my case they recovered items I lost promptly and without hassle. That's within the last two years.

Another long time player (this one a pillar in the community) gone, due to a bug first reported in 2009.

As far as all the speculation about what it would take to get their stuff back, what it takes to back up, all the debates with the usual "spaghetti code" and "epic undertaking" buzzwords thrown in there as they are each and every time - here is a straight fact for you. DDO literally has an "undelete" service for people who deleted their character and regretted it later.

AKA - We already know this data gets backed up. No excuses for not being able to get their character back on this one.

Firegoddess seems like a talented person and will find something else to do.
As an inactive season pass holder, I am glad I became disgruntled.
My daughter and I started a pet food business that keeps us busy, happy and bonded.

Fire was like an ambassador for ddo.
If this was my company I would lose sleep until Fire was properly fixed.

But then again look at P T Barnum, he became rich.

    Question

I don't know this person at all, and it sounds like an awful thing to happen.

Why were their threads on the subject closed down though?

I ask, as if a genuine service issue, that adds insult to injury, and is pretty shocking stuff, assuming no forum rules breached. If on the other and the character has been deleted for something untoward, then it would make sense to close their associated thread(s) on the matter.

It has happened to me twice where I logged on, that what got populated was someone else's account/toons. I never done anything to that account, and just logged off/on to get into my own account. So I believe there are system glitches that can occur to explain what happened here.

Devs can log into your characters while you are on another character. This is how they handled some forms of cheating in the past, by manually logging into each character and deleting stuff. We know the capability exists.

A database issue seems like a possibility, and this doesn't require any action of any one person. Given that no individual must be at fault, there is no need for people (not you) to point fingers without any first hand information.

Logic won't tell us the answer, and knowing this can happen is all we can really know for sure. You would have the option to wait around for weeks, months, or even years to get your stuff back, and different people will handle this differently. The amount of time or money you have spent don't guarantee anything.

That is very helpful information. I hope they can track this happening if this is indeed what happened.

To lose him is a shame. He was a good player, and a nice person.
He gave me quite a few tips when I was a newbie.
It probably meant next to nothing to him, but it helped me immensely.

I don't understand how they can be so casual about their absolute failure in customer support.
It's not like this is a new thing. It needs rebuilt with new purpose.

According to BBB files this business has a pattern of complaints concerning lack of customer service via in-game tickets.
Consumers state that the business closes in-game tickets with no response, and fails to assist or rectify issues related to game play or payment for services.
Contact with the business regarding reactivating accounts does not offer the consumer an option for resolution.
Consumers indicate that they want better customer service, compensation for in-game items purchased but not received, as well as responses to issues.
BBB sent a written notice to Standing Stone Games, LLC identifying the potential pattern of complaint with a request for a business response.
As of 3/13/19 the business did not respond to BBB's request.

My own investigation into the BBB Rating has not determined if '6 blob fish above whale doodie' is a legitimate rating.
My guess is they don't go lower than F.

I doubt you will ever get any response here about anything related to the matter.

However, you can boil it down to a few different scenarios. 1- He was doing something wrong (cheating) and his account got wiped as a result. 2- There was some glitch in the game where somehow his TR cache got wiped and character reset to level 1. 3- Someone had his credentials (hacked or had prior info) and a bone to pick. 4- He screwed something up during TR or something, and is not owning up to it / did not know he did something wrong.

Not saying what I think it is, but all likely can be grouped into one of those 4 buckets. The only bucket SSG is responsible for is #2. Every other scenario is not their fault and would be a best effort type of thing in case #4.

I can confirm this once happened to me a long, long time ago... years, and I was so startled that someone else's characters came up on my screen I immediately quit out no screen shot or anything just ***! And I can absolutely say with absolute certainty it was someone else's characters because ALL of my characters are female on every server and the first one highlighted was male which just stunned me immediately.

It never happened again thank goodness but I've had other weirdness occur occasionally like a character that had logged out in the Hall of Heroes at the banker dwarf logging in on the character creation ship... still high level and not apparently missing anything but certainly unexpected. Also I've logged in on the guildship and my character came into the world float/falling down into the Marketplace. That was odd but I chalked it up to lag and the guildship not being solid under my character at the moment she came into the world or some other physics flaw.

The character undelete service works exactly the way they restored his character. You get back your character with his past lives/tomes/rp's intact but you lose your tr cache and most of your equipment in the process. I think the best thing for him to do is to file a ticket and be patient while the GMs do their job. Posting boycott threads or having friends post about his CS issues in the general forum is not the way to go about it.

TR Cache bug was first reported in 2009. They had 11 years to rectify that. How long do you want people to wait patiently?

If the character was deleted/disappeared for any other reason, why?

#4 is just a variant of #2 - because of the state it left the character in. Its not like he took a wrong feat or something.

We can refute #3 as it happened when he was on an alt and if a player logs into the same account from two different PCs the first is booted.

This really sucks, I'm sorry to hear it. There may yet be hope for Firegoddess, but it usually doesn't happen quickly. I was immediately reminded of this thread in early 2019. It's a different situation, but the same steps may be required by DDO to resolve it. In Overaan's case, it took over a month to correct.

    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...vs-please-help

There was a rash of TR problems back then, and being new at the time I was scared out of my wits. I still have that fear today.

I'm not talking about the TR cache disappearing when you do a reincarnation. I'm talking about the undelete service. When you get a character restored, most of your items are lost and you might end up with a handful of your old things if you're lucky and had them on you when you deleted. It has nothing to do with the "cache bug" the service restores the "character".

    So much this.

Give the rebooted toon every past life and 200 reaper points and 100k remnants and 4.2m platinum and two full sentient gems and every raid item in the game and then ask if there is anything else they can throw at you and please, please keep playing.

What would the player do then? Write a forum post praising SSG and be a committed DDOer for years.

    It's a win-win (win-win-win-win-win) end game.
