This has been happening to me as well, ever since the 64bit came out. Every update it gets to the dat file downloading and it starts repeatedly getting an "E_FAIL" or a 0xfff something error.

I've tried running it as admin.
I've tried running it while logged into the actual admin accout.
It keeps happening. I'm still on Windows 7.

It is very very frustrating, when this happens the day on or before my normal scheduled static group and I'm stuck not being able to play.

I am having the same issue when I am downloading the high res data files. I have run as an admin and it is not working. I did and uninstall and reinstall.

Haven't been able to play for a week.

Check the link in my signature called DDO-Wrapper, that has the hi-res data already in it so you will only need a few updates for the hotfixes. Hopefully you will have better luck.

If you are going to make two updates a week, fix your update logic. This is ridiculous.

Default Limit average patching download rate

Open the launcher, click the down carrot, and select options.
Under the General tab, select "Limit Average Download Patching Rate" and set it to any of the values and hit OK at the bottom.
Start the launcher again and see if there is improvement. If not, go back into options and select a slower/lower value and try again.

Let us know if this worked for you.

Actually just got the updates to go through. I think it's an edge server issue. Fixing to make a post about it in the general forums.

I don't know how to start a new thread so I'll just post here because I have a similar problem, downloaded the game on steam, launched it just fine, when I get in the game for the first time it freezes and I had to alt f4 out, after that when I wanted to play again, when I start the launcher it has an error that says "an update error occurred server connection timed out" I tried everything, restarting my computer, restarting the router, uninstalling and reinstalling, running as admin, downloading from the website, I checked the firewall, downloading with and without the high res textures, repairing the files, I played the game before on this computer and worked just fine, don't know if something changed in the last few months. I'm using windows 10 btw

Try to find dndlauncher.exe and run it without going through steam.
Try to reset the display settings in the launcher options. Just "tick" the box, then hit OK. Do NOT hit the repair button.

Take a look at this thread. It was also an update problem (not the same error) but some of the suggestions may help. Mindos and I posted most of the things from the past that have fixed update issues.

Getting the same issue today after the update/patching. Was surprised to see I was already using the x86 client, so I decided to go for borked and reset the entire options screen to default.

Seems to have worked, oddly enough.

I had this issue today after this weeks patch. ipconfig /flushdns in an elevated command prompt cleared up the issue for me.
