Yes yes, you've got your dimension doors, bigby's hands, maps from the Wiki, following the experienced player who SEEMS to know what they're doing, etc.

The true pro key is simple - at the entrance, pick a wall, left or right, and stick to it. This is a bona fide key to navigating 99.9% of mazes. In fact, start at any point, and as long as you're not on some central island, you'll eventually get out.

Default This is one of those where I really start to wonder if it's the *right* question...

Well yes, by definition, the way to not get lost is to always know where you are and where you're going.

This would in practice preclude 1) falling asleep while a passenger in any vehicle 2) using any transport that you can't independently track from your passenger seat 3) getting too impaired to know where you are (mind those deep sleep states especially) ... In D&D terms, ALWAYS be able to pass a DC 15 Survival check.

Given that this would be severely limiting, the better way is to know how to mitigate the situation. As in, "always know how to get home"...

Yeah, that's how to do it in practice.

Apparently, translated to approximate D&D terms, Grandpa thought people should always start with 1 level of Ranger. Always, as in that's about when children can be left without parental supervision for a day. (Might have been influenced by him having been a child underfoot in WWI - had to dodge rifle fire and go hide in the woods...)

To avoid getting lost I use a Compact Mirror of Absolute Positioning or open the Time Purse, lean out, and ask for directions.

Default What is the best way to not get lost?

Befriend a Ranger and follow him.
