"Every time there is an update i get blocked from the forum and the game well before the update starts. I'm now using a proxy (it's the only way to actually connect to the forum) and the game has been stuck on "pre-reqs" since what in boston would've been 2 am (actually morning where i'm from).

I understand the update is by now under progress but the problem for me started well before that. I've played until what in boston would have been 5 pm yesterday and when i woke up this morning (again in boston would've been 2 am) it was like i was blocked out of the game and forum.

I can connect using a proxy or via my mobile but if i use my pc i get squat. This happens every time there is an update, can someone on the team help me understand what is causing it / how to solve it / how to prevent it?

Still connecting only via proxy

This sounds like something in your firewall or security software is likely nixing the game. Try manually re-adding it when there is an update, don't just trust your security software to recognize it properly.

When I read this in the release notes I was like this seems like a solution looking for a problem. Are they wiping my collection of ruined Mabar event candies or my 6 year anniversary cakes on bank toons?

A little premature to be talking about that. I think everyone would prefer that they find/fix the current bug quickly.

That said, if it can't be fixed quickly, then I am sure they will make a generous compensation for everyone, as has been done in the past. (I remember at least two occasions (one Turbine, and one SSG), and I was pleased with what they did to make it up to us).

Supposedly just the things that get stuck and are listed as "string table error" in your banks/bags.

Absolutely not, don't worry. Deprecated items refer to items that we have - intentionally or otherwise - dropped from the game's data entirely. They appear (usually) as a set of string tables in bags, and are unable to be interacted with or removed. This is simply a cleanup method so we can safely remove those broken bits of code from characters without GM or database intervention.

*IF* you are correct, then the event itself is not technically the cause, but the extra people on the servers causing it. Fixing lag issues caused by high usage is important, regardless of the cause. So, I would prefer they either extend the event or create another one that generates a lot of usage, long enough to identify and fix all the lag issues.

"Sources" have sussed it out the laggenicity before SSG has.

I remember some from a long while back, none in any current character bags/banks.

It isn’t rocket science. Coronavirus lockdown increases the number of people at home playing computer games. This increases server load and hence lag. The free quests event encourages people to play DDO rather than some other game. This further increases server load.

Obviously it isn’t the only cause of lag, but it undeniably causes extra lag.

Or maybe just working from the observation that as the day goes on,UK time early am into late am and early pm into late pm the more and more log on to the point that by 8-9pm raiding in a aprty of 12 will pretty much guarantee plenty of lag, becuase for example Khyber has gonr from havng less than 100 toons logged to over 400 during that 8 hour period, this being 1 server and there are 7-8 other servers likely seeing the same surge in numbers, numbers that clearly the tech is struggling to deal with until the next morning when numbers are back down to 100 ish and without a reboot or patch the lag has pretty much gone away for a bit only to return.
