A Chaos Beholder head, like Mister Smythe.
Just a random, forgettable NPC doing things an NPC does
Things that NPCs do include, but are not limited to:

Having a gold goblet over my head to indicate availability of a quest
Having a catchphrase that never really catches on
Having various rewards that are generally not worth the trouble
    Wandering around randomly
Giving out obvious information if it wasn't obvious enough
Repeating the same lines over and over again

I know I'll come up with better later, but only if I post a response now...

    A Tinfoil hat!

A hat woven from invisible stalker essence, so that we can have legions of headless horsemen.

    A beret.

Also, a classic horned helmet. The kind the Norse never wore.

Default What kind of hat does DDO need?

A miner's helmet (with candle) - I've often wanted to make a pick wielding dwarf/gnome forced to be an adventurer because of what they met up in a mine.

A cone hat so my gnome can finally look proper.

A bowler hat. Stylish and customizable; just google steampunk bowlers and prepare to be amazed.

Other ideas include a Viking-esque horned helm and also something similar with antlers, maybe in preparation for the feywild...

A hat with a brim so wide it puts a dragon's wingspan to shame. So wide you have an innate nonmagical feather fall effect while wearing it. So wide that your token takes up one size category larger than than normal.

We don't actually need this to be a player hat. Just an NPC we can drool at in all their hatty glory.

    Default Non standard hat tipping

The perfect hat for every bard is obviously the upside down variant. No matter the time a skulking goblin can always throw you a tip.
