Hello,
Most important thing first: please read the entirety of this guide before attempting anything.
This is written from my experiences. You may or may not have the same issue, but if this sounds like you:
"I use an alternate launcher to patch and play the game, because I cannot use the default launcher..."
Then you may have had the same issue as me and the same solution can work.
Essentially, with Update 44 four new files were released. I assume these are 3D model data files, but I haven't investigated as it's not relevant.
Those exclusively using alternate launchers will not have these files. They appear to be unable to download new files and only patch current files you have.
If you are missing files, but acquire them (through downloading, copying) and put them in the directory, the alternate launchers appear to patch successfully. I believe the patch server checks the files you have and not the files you are missing. The files are:
"Client_cell_3.dat"
"Client_cell_4.dat"
"Client_map_3.dat"
"Client_map_4.dat"
If you navigate to your DDO install directory and see you do not have these 4 files (search your directory for "Client_" to make it easier) then this fix is for you. Image.
Walkthrough
1. You will require these 4 files:
"Client_cell_3.dat"
"Client_cell_4.dat"
"Client_map_3.dat"
"Client_map_4.dat"
I don't believe I'm allowed to post links to them on the forum, so you can:
-try ask a friend/guildy to copy these files from their DDO directory and send you a download link to them (they are small in size)
-you can private message me on here and I will copy my files to Google drive and send you a link.
However, I understand not wanting to do the latter. Try ask a friend to send them to you if you are hesitant.
2. Unzip/copy these into your ddo folder, which is:
[drivename]:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dungeons and Dragons Online
or
[drivename]:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dungeons and Dragons Online
or
[drivename]:\Program Files (x86)\Standing Stone Games\Dungeons & Dragons Online
remove "[drivename]" and input the name of the drive you have installed on. C, D, F, etc.
3. Go to your alternate launcher and patch the game.
4. It will update these files if needed. It will now always do this in the future. You hopefully won't have to go through this rigmarole again.
5. If you have got the files from someone that runs the high resolution version of the game (I do for example) follow step 6 and 7.
6. Go to: C:\Users\Alex Wood\Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online
7. If you are uncomfortable with modifying files such as this, make a backup copy of UserPreferences beforehand.
Open UserPreferences and under "[Launcher]" look for:
"UseHighResolutionGameData=true"
- If it is not written there, then copy the above without quotation marks.
- Paste it on a newline under [Launcher] (see image)
- If we use files from the high res vers of the game, then we must tell the game it's okay to use them. This is how we do so.
8. Open the game through your launcher and give it a go.
I cannot guarantee this will work for you. If it hasn't, navigate to the DDO directory and delete the 4 files put in there. Changing your UserPreferences files to what it was originally (use your backup or just changing the UseHighResolutionGameData variable back to false if it was that previously)
Pray note that I am not a technical support assistant and am only posting this as a guide. Please don't reply with queries and requests for help unless relevant to the topic and please don't rely on me for help.
