If they're orange/yellow then I'd go with prismatic until you get a plane shift result. Consolation prize is stoning them. Probably the cheapest.
But cc/ik doesn't work on red names.
A couple facts: The anti magic debuff is only medium range. If you get it, all your buffs are dispelled (annoying) and you can't cast spells (deadly). The debuff takes a second or two to dissipate after you're out of the aoe. Beholders seem to have low saves.I got a question how do you deal with red named beholders on a wiz those things must suck

Your best bet as a caster is to stay at long distance and use ray spells. Disintegrate, frost lance, polar ray, scorching ray and lightning bolt all work well. Prismatic ray is also a good one, as well as meteor swarm. I can usually kill a beholder this way before it figures out what's going on and gets within retaliation distance. Spamming sonic blast and electric loop would probably work great at lower levels from the doubled up stuns.
FYI, when I summon an earth elemental, it's not a "he," it's a "she." And her name is Pebbles.
Force damage. Far as I can tell, this is one of the damage types they don't have resistance to.
Therefore, taking one of the cheap force spells (say Chain Missiles) and dropping the Enhance metamagic on it should make the job a bit easier.

While you're at it:
Deathblock items, and make use of a really high-damage spell. Beholders are bad at will saves, so a Phantasmal Killer will kill it before it can antimagic you. Wall of Fire and ray spells (especially Prismatic) also do nicely. If all else fails, get Death Ward for negative levels, give up on magic and just punch it.
But yes, they are annoying.

Just tested a new bladeforged sorc out dw won't stop beholder level drains bfs are still immune so that helped
and the con fort save if you don't got enough hp can still kill i think
von3 i used scorching ray at the shrine on the red named
worked great or ya would of just grabbed my axe

Having issues with this in heroics myself. I've been using ball lightning and acid rain/fog mostly. Once you hit epics you can twist in insidious spores to get rid of golems pretty well at least.

Enlarge/Quicken, Ray Spells, Enlarged Finger of Death for those which can be instakilled or Flesh to Stone if they have Death Ward.

Prismatic (Sp)Ray, Twist in Insidious Spores (its a tier 1 ED ability so its fairly easy to get), Niac's Biting Cold/Eladar's Electric Surge.(electricity slows them as far as I know)
Prismatic (Sp)Ray can instakill and turn them into stone,for rednamed ones well, kite until they die. Dunno why Wiz doesnt get any rust spells (only repairs), even one would be a big help.....oh well, can't have everything, I guess, only "almost"
