times are hard and things are bad. but some things are good. this is an excerpt from Tess Lynch's weather newsletter she sent after her children's schools closed:

My son suggested that he could teach his sister how to read. He volunteered to make a chart for jobs, like he had at school -- line leader, caboose, table leader. He said that he could make educational toys out of his old castoffs for his sister. I asked if he knew what an optimist was, and showed him our soap dispenser. "Half empty, or half full?" "I'd say neither. I'd say it depends on why you're asking. We still have soap. Don't be sad, mom."

I live just outside Seattle - so am smack dab in the epicenter of the U.S. outbreak. And I am a very at-risk person for this kind of virus (three of my doctors have notified me I am considered extremely high risk). It's hard not to freak out and go into hoarder hermit mode. But, I am trying my best to approach it with sensible caution and precautions. Mostly, trying to help out my friends and neighbors as best we can. Honestly, being human and decent to each other is going to be the best way to get through this.

Hope everyone is well where you are, and stay well!

As a Seattleite who works with particularly vulnerable (immunocompromised) folks, fingers crossed for you, Memnir. Our city's doing a decent job of it so far, IMO
