    Question Risia Ice Games?

Pardon my ignorance, but I just returned to DDO after a 7 year hiatus. Any news on when or if the DDO Winter Games still happen? I do not like the Risia Ice Games and plan to unload 9 White Ice Games Coins in the AH for a small pittance. Assuming the Ice Games still happen.

Also, is there a list somewhere as to when all the festivults/festivals occur in 2020?

Risia Ice games still happen, one is coming soon.

Here's a wiki link on various events: https://ddowiki.com/page/Special_events

Any news on updates or changes to the event this year?
"When asked if the developers hate the players, as they make so many challenging jumping puzzles, their response was that they have what they consider a “… normal amount of contempt for the players.” This is good. A dungeon master should always nurse a healthy contempt for his or her players."

Hasn't been any changes in years. Like 6 or 7 at least but I would certainly welcome some. Its weird how they talk, actually talk like on twitch interviews and such, about how popular Night Revels are as opposed to ALL other game events. But they never focus on the crux of the issue that Night Revels gets new rewards, new mobs, new quests every year while other events languish in the Land of the Forgotten for more than half a decade. Of course an event that gets updated every season is going to be more popular than ones that see infrequent changes.

Without new and updated recipes though I'm not sure what the point of Risia is any longer. At least Midwinter races has cookies and snowballs. By the way Midwinter snowballs are hilariously funny in Taming the Flames and heroic ToEE2 fire zone. They don't see much use after Chains of Flame for me and even then I tend to have more useful weapons by then anyway. Its just giggle-worthy to pelt archer gnolls with a snowball to the face.

Why stop the party after Chains of Flame? Could actually be relevant on an Alch after U45 Bring it along to Magma Must Flow

Makes me feel better - I got a Snowball with a Mythic bonus, I've been holding onto it since they suggested Alchs would use darts

A sudden increase in the number of horses on Xendrik, from 0 to ****loads, has had the side effect of massive methane production, which has in turn caused a greenhouse effect responsible for global warming on an unprecedented scale. A sudden jump in the number of fire sorcerers flinging their stuff around after a recent Strimtom video has not helped either.

As a result, snow related Risia events have been indefinitely postponed...

(This tongue in cheek post actually mimics the real-life fate of many Japanese ski-resorts this year!)

You hit the issue nicely: There hasn't been anything new in years. It's behind the curve, level limited. But it does have trinkets, provided the stars align, the angels sing your name and you win three top tier gold rolls in a row 21 seconds before hand. (Also known as being very lucky.)

I'll kit out a fire proof set but honestly, the recipes are mostly behind the curve on gearing. It's an opportunity to be creative, but thus far these snowflakes are all alike.

But, without introducing more power creep and inventory bloat, what could be added that would increase the draw on crowds?

    (For Aelonwy)
Ice and snow based cosmetics. Scarves, hats, overcoats.

For casters: Snow themed spell cosmetics. A blue and white fireball? A wraith wrapped in a translucent white blizzard (motes of powder)?

    For the minion masters.
Their summons look like snowmen, wendigos or yetis?

And some new gearing options would be great: this is the same 'ol, same ol' for ten years.

    But snowballs are fun.

Saekee posted this thread in 2016:

    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...Risia-recipes?

And I think the community has been adding to it a little each year. No changes or even comments from the devs.
But Risia had already been stale for a few years before the suggestions thread even went up.

I just dread Eveningstar turning vivid, horrifying, eye-ripping neon blue for 3 months.

I kind of like the changes the events bring to the common areas. It changes it visually; I might have poor taste though..

Aelowny, the Devs did listen: they removed the cheese jump from the mast for the purple coin collecting last year. They just didn't listen to what we wanted.

There has been one change : A ship has drowned. It cannot be used for jumps anymore.
Or so I have discussions from the last year in my memory.

That's what I had meant. The ship cann still be reached through diving, though.

Apart from that, I'm still bursting of laughter when I see my characters slip out on the ice and totally ungracefully fall to the ground !

Yeah. That sure doesn't help. Why in a game are they looking for ways to remove fun from people? Not that I ever used that... I liked the multiple LoF jumps to it myself. But its not like its any fun at all anymore no matter what method you use to get to the purple coin because there's almost never more than 1 instance to the harbor.

It is true that the Risia Ice Games and Eveningstar Midwinter Festival, known collectively as the DDO Winter Games, have not been updated in years. We will be enabling them this week, however, during our weekly downtime, and the games will remain active through Tuesday, February 11th, being shut off the morning of the 12th (assuming we do our weekly restart on the 12th).

Personally, I don't think it needs to be updated ... end game players have other toys to play with ...
