Default Cannith Crafting - still worth it?

Since there is DDO Bonus Days +25% Cannith Crafting XP Boost, and I have 70k essences banking them for whole time playing DDO, I was wonder if CC is still relevant. My current level is 130. Checking some guides I found effective leveling needs some DDO points investment for crafting exp potion and Boosters. I was wonder if CC is still worth to level up, since there are so much named loot in the game.

It fills gaps. I use it for trinkets and gloves. sure, there are named items out there, but look closely at those, because there is a lot of redundancy. I good CC crafter can build items that are more well rounded at different levels. I am lev 391. If you want to level, get the boosts and try and craft the 3% chance ones (the boost add 25% or something. also use the XP potions. You can level very quickly. I got to 391 with about 50k min essences in one sitting. make sure you plan, and don't forget, you cant craft if you don't have the right materials This happened to me.

    good luck!

    It is absolutely worth it.

For a while it was literally top shelf, especially in Heroic content, and it's still in a decent spot.

On my main most of my leveling gear is CC gear. Ravenloft and Sharn have some pretty good gear sets now that eclipse the CC gear for sure but it nicely fills the gaps for you.

Absolutely. My gearsets usually consisted of roughly 7 or 8 named items & 3 or 4 CC items. The ability to customize items to fill in gaps in needed effects is almost a necessity. I just put together an ML21 assassin gearset, 8 named items and 4 CC items. Values are mostly on par with named items until you get into higher epics, where Slavers makes more sense. I'm relatively new so I haven't dabbled in GS or other crafting methods which may be superior to CC, so take with appropriate grain of salt. CC is indispensible for me. Farming mats can be painful, and is the least enjoyable part. If you only play at cap, perhaps its not worth your time and money, but otherwise I'd tell you to go for it.

EDIT: Advice above is dead on. Only craft ML shards, and plan ahead to get to a crafting level ending in 1 (131, 141, 201, etc) so that you can craft an ML shard 29 levels higher, which is the '3% chance' mentioned. This provides the maximum crafting XP. Then use the +35% boosters and craft until successful. Then move up to the next level ending in 1 and repeat. Along with the XP pot, you'll be there in no time. The only limitation is essences, but I think that 70k will be more than enough to get you to Level 300+.

Also if you are looking to level then you might want to monstly craft the ML shards and the unbound ML shards as they ONLY cost essences and not any materials.

You can deconstruct any shard for sure but you only get essences back for doing so.

If you are going to construct shards that cost materials then make sure it's a shard that you reasonably expect to use at some point down the road.

Mostly useful to fill gaps, although some CC combos are NICE (ML1 blindness immunity googles of true seeing <- never miss secret door in low level quests again), also good combo is bracers with fortification/sheltering and strength (if you can't get good combo for that on other gear).

I saw some other good combos made by others but can't find thread ATM.

Super worthwhile for whatever gear you can't slot in with Ravenloft/Sharn.

I use Cannith Crafted for +10/+4 Main Stat and +10/+4 Con especially (ML21) while doing Epic lives.

Agreed. I'm wearing ML21 CC Bracers of Resistance 8, CON 10, Sheltering 25 at the moment. It might have been spell saves instead of resistance but the Stone Heart trinket came along just in time to give me Lesser Displacement, with Spell Saves 8 and ins CON +4 thrown in

Not sure whether other people find Cannith Crafting worth it. But, every time I TR into a melee I found my self in troubles when it comes to gearing. In a lot of cases just having high lvl in CC would save me a lot of garbage I have to go through. And even if I play other roles, there is always something that could be crafted in CC. That would help me A LOT. Just if I had high lvl enough to craft it. I'm lvl 110. I have 17k Crafting Essences. And, I have Greater Crafting Experience Elixir. I'm prepared for action. Any guides? I was thinking crafting the minimum level items. Minimum level item 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 etc... It doesn't require collectibles just the essence. Good or bad idea?

I haven't had a level 30 gearset without at least one CC piece in quite a while. The flexibility is amazingly helpful to fit in those last few stats (negative amp for my PM, for instance).

I would definitely recommend it to anyone who plans on sticking with DDO.

CC values are still the benchmark for named item values. You will not currently find named items w/ higher values than CC can provide (or dern few, and none that I can think of atm).

    o https://ddowiki.com/page/Cannith_Crafting/table_3b

What Named Items provide are combinations and/or effects that are not available via CC - 4 or 5 effects on a single item, permanent Lesser Displacement, double slots, etc. etc., and such types of effects as Untyped, Profane, Quality, Equipment*, etc., that all stack very nicely.

(* Most CC (and droploot) effects are "Enhancement")

So, once you have the named items that you lust for, and you know what slots you have left, you build the rest of your needed effects with at-level values to fit those slots and needs, done.

I think so. I do not do a lot of raids.
Its especially useful if you don't do a lot of raids.

I make gearsets for my paladin every (4) levels.
I make sure I get yellow or green slots on the gear and augment as well.
For weapons, I have stockpiled several with red slot and adamantine/silver, etc.

Takes a lot to level up these days.
70K will be enough to get you into the range of higher end bound gear.
I would pony up for a potion if I had that much stock at my next shard party.
    Success boosters as well.

If you're actually crafting, gonna need a bunch of collectables.
You'll also need a lot of purified eberron dragonshards for the extra third slot abilities.
Some things are still broken. Guards on armor comes to mind quickly.

If you are going for just the XP, only make minimum level shards.
Remember you can deconstruct those minimum level shards for some of your essences back.

Don't forget to protect your investment by bound and attuning it.

You get exactly ML # of essences back, and no CXP for it. So if you decon a ML 13 shard, you get 13 essences back, etc.

Make sure you only decon the ones you never expect to need. ML 4, 8, 10, 15, 18, 20 - these are all predictably useful, depending. Also useful are ML's that match any key named item sets you use, so you can swap all at once. ymmv.

This is true of most heroic and lower epic items, "exceptions" are almost the norm at ML26+.

Agree with everyone else it's worth it, but I wanted to point out you don't need to spend a single DDO point on it. The crafting tutorial rewards are BtA so you can just run those on alts to get the exp potion / success boosters you desire, or if you're in a hurry just spend plat at the House C vendor (50 favor required).

Yeah, no. If those guides don't mention that you can get these FOR FREE then they are doing a disservice to the community.

    You need:
    1) An open character slot
    2) ~100 Plat
    3) (optional) a shared bank*
    4) 10-15 minutes, start to finish

Run an alt** thru the House K Crafting Hall tutorial, drop the 5 Boosters* or Crafting XP pot* in the Shared bank, grab them w/ your Crafter, delete that alt, repeat until you feel you have enough (maybe 20-30(+) boosters & 1 CXP pot?).

o https://ddowiki.com/page/Cannith_Crafting_Tutorial (this is very detailed, step-by-step, for those who need that)

(* Every account, even F2P, starts with a 12-slot Shared Crafting Bank. Only the boosters will fit there (not the +CXP Pots), but that's something!)

(** I'd suggest a Human Barbarian w/ 18 Cha, 2 ranks of Haggle, DM of passage & Skill Focus:Haggle (for run speed and to save a few plat) - nothing else matters.)

True until legendary gear comes into play, and then it falls well behind (i.e. +15 ability max for CC) That's why I mentioned that it may not be worthwhile if playing only at cap. Honestly, even then it can be handy for secondary abilities/effects, though Leg. Slavers is still better. My Mechanic at cap still wears two crafted items, a CC trinket and Slavers boots. Those two items give me Resistance 12, AP 23%, ins DEX 7, WIS 17, Seeker 17, Spot 22, and qual CON 4.

The +35% boosters will allow you to level using fewer essences (i.e. fewer failures of hard-to-craft shards). That is the tradeoff. I chose to buy the +35% boosters since I did not have many 10's of thousands of essences. It was worthwhile to me, but that is a judgement each person must make. You'll find that it takes a ton of essences to advance once you get into the mid 200 levels, as it gets tougher to get to the next '1' level (i.e. from 271 to 281) and that 70k essences may fall short of getting to your goal without the best boosters. Just something to keep in mind as you level.

Its great for us casuals that dont have time to farm that moooonster grind for rare gear but can fill with a crafted item. I use it all the time.
