Its the sentient XP they are selling. The rest is just an add on. Thus they obviously wont be selling the actual power parts cheaper as the entire point is selling thus at a premium price.
I wont be buying any even though I could easily effort several - but I like the fact that others can and will buy these and thus help pay for the game.

If $30 is what constitutes a "whale item" then I guess I'm guilty. I am not replying specifically to this post when I say the following....I am 50+ yrs old and at a point in my life where things like this will not impact my finances and allow me a measure of recapturing that feeling I had all those years ago when I discovered D&D. I am baffled as to why that is looked upon with disdain. I don't apologize for spending money on this game. I work hard and don't have as much time as I would like to play, things like this allow me to keep current and experience newer additions to the game...like fils. I don't have a single weapon on any character that has 5 slots in it's sentient gem. This will allow me to experience that.
If you're just getting into Sentient Weapons and can afford it, it's a very solid purchase! I won't dispute that.
For me, I just farmed out my 7th slot in my main gem (so many WPM runs) and already have 5 in a secondary gem; so it'd only be valuable to me for going for 8-slots (another 39k from where I'm at). Since I don't have a Spark of Memory, I was wondering if one would be included; as it isn't, and I'd prefer to save Threads of Fate, I don't think this package is high-value for me.
$30 to go from 1-2 slots to 6-7 in one go is pretty solid, especially if you don't enjoy SXP farming or you collect lots of named gear (and don't want to feed it). Throw on an artifact for 3k feed that you would have used and you're getting two full set bonuses lol.
$30 + 500 threads to go from 7-8 slots I don't think is nearly as valuable. For me I'd probably find it worth spending $10 or so for using on an alt (or on my main if I get lucky and pull a Spark in the next week) but I can't justify $30 even though it's within my budget.
As far as a "whale item" I guess that depends on how you compare it. There's a lot of games you can purchase entirely for less than that, although DDO is more of the cash-heavy end if you want to spend $$ vs mostly F2P. Even if I discount my hourly rate I've spent a lot more hours grinding quests for SXP than I would with a one-time purchase of $30 lol.

Bought a Tenser's Weapon Box expecting to be able to access some new weapon auras. Guess what? We have the SAME selection of weapon auras as we've always had.
Don't buy a box if new auras is one of the reasons you're doing so.
That aura for Whelm in the splash screen is what I was hoping to get, btw.
That is a bit misleading that the Tenser's Weapon Box splash screen advertises them as "new" weapon auras, and yes - agreed that something similar to the one in the splash screen would have been nice.
I do think that the Weapon Box is good value if you just want to max out sentient xp without farming/feeding, but it would have been nicer if there were some really unique weapon auras, and/or if the lasting oil of strengthening had been an item that could add some permanent effect (+50 durability, +10 hardness).
I mean I hate playing this game below level 4, I gold rolled whenever I died on Hardcore to skip that, and while yeah I still did all the lv1-4 quests for all the favor anyway I could exit reenter to go fast. It can be just as fair for someone to spend resource to sidestep less desirable portions, ultimately it's what people should spend their points on; playing the game when and where they want to play it.
Plus VIP players get 6k DDO points a year +~ 1300 points for 100 favor a week. That's 7300 ish points a year someone can reasonably have by just playing the game a small amount, I've certainly saved to get Otto's box one year because I really wanted the Cyan cube pet.
This year I did get one Wish of Inheritance and gave me winning Hardcore character a Spireth from a raider's box. She earned it, and while expensive I'm extremely happy with it. And sure I could have flagged and run Caught in the Web several times by playing the game..... OR sidestep that by spending resource that I do get in the game.
As for tenser's weapon box it's definitely to sidestep the sentient grind which to me isn't really worth, I've been hungry for sentient XP lately on the alts from Hardcore, but I found doing borderlands Wilderness laps on Epic gives plenty of named drops plus feathers.
But I imagine someone out there just wants to give their alt the one sentient wep set that just completes their build and they wanna be awesome this Christmas, and that 50k Sxp will be great.
We're going to look into the weapon aura thing. Thanks for the report.

EDIT: I screwed up. I fed a 1000 xp gem when I thought it was a 5000 XP gem. Nothing to see here, move along...

Yep, I realized this while eating dinner after my earlier post. At the time, I was thinking 3 slots = 6000 xp (like on a jewel).
Either way, though...my intent was to try to quickly max out my artifact, and 5000 xp should have done the job.
So I would have been happy to have gotten 3000 XP, but I only got 1000 XP.
Still an issue, in my opinion.
