Default DDO, Linux (Mint) and steam. Graphical issue

Running DDO through Steam on a upto date Mint install. Everything running happily apart from a single issue. I have no control over brightness, contrast or gamma through the options panel. Dug out the userpreferences.ini file to manually set a value but still no control. Through most of the game this isn't an issue. Some quests are more or less unplayable though. It's just too dark.

    Any one any ideas?

Can you try window mode or full screen borderless window? I don't know how steam handles windows native files. Does it wrap the game in wine or something? I can't imagine there are linux native files?
Normally, people would say (on windows) to install the older directx versions. Or the latest graphics driver. But the linux driver is the best you are gonna get, imho. Good luck, sorry I'm not much help here. You could try to search the ugly horrible steam forums?

edit, on windows, sometimes there is a 3rd party app running in the tray, or a display adapter or monitor program that "intercepts" graphics calls, especially brightness. I can't recall ever seeing them on linux, let alone on Mint though. Still, something to check. Is there a nVidia or ATI/AMD afterburner or something else 3rd party running?

I've never had steam play or wine support brightness or gamma.

It's running through Proton, Valves Wine version. Vanilla install so no 3rd party stuff causing issues. Driver is Nvidia latest Linux one.

May have to try through Play On Linux rather than through Steam and see what happens. That will have to wait a while though until I have fixed internet access back. Next couple of months I'm stuck on tethered mobile.

    Cheers though

You can set it manually from your Nvidia X Server Settings or set up an application profile for DNDLauncher.exe as a work around so you wont have to manually adjust it after playing DDO.
Its very easy to do with the graphical user interface click settings. Just look through your Linux program menu to find Nvidia X Server Setting program.

I have used both winetricks and playonlinux with the regular game client using the in game options/graphic settings for brightness without any issues.

Cheers for that. Will have a dig around later this morning.

Finally had a chance to have a look and...

I must be going blind. I can't find a single option/place for changing brightness/contrast in the XServer settings. Any idea?

Under GPU-0 you should see your monitor listed highlight that.

To the right there should be three tabs Information, Controls and Color Correction.

Select Color Correction tab and you will see the options listed there as sliders.

    No monitor listed under GPU-0

Should of noted earlier that this is on a laptop.

    Open terminal ctrl+alt+t

Type in terminal xbacklight -set 75

Can set a value of 0-100 adjust it accordingly.

If you dont have the program installed enter the following in the terminal:
    sudo apt-get install xbacklight

    No effect.

I'm going to leave it for now. I can live with things as they are at the moment. It's only some of the very dark quests (the tunnels in slavers as an example).

Once I have proper internet connectivity back (mobile tethered with download limit at the moment) I'll have a proper play with POL/Wine rather than Proton.

Many thanks for your time though. ????

Visit the Linuxmint Forums otherwise and post on the Hardware Support Graphics Cards & Monitors section.

    Good Luck to you
