    Default I keep coming back

And I finally figured out why, I think

DDO's gameplay is tight, yes. It's dungeons and quests are far more entertaining than the fetch quests of other MMOs, yes. Its customization and multiclass options are great, yes, but that is not what has kept me playing this game on and off for years.

It's personal power. In other MMOs you absolutely need other party members to complete a huge amount of the content. And while that is a good time, playing with others, in both DDO and other MMOs - in DDO I can push my character and gameplay to the limit and solo hard things if I want. I'm not limited in DDO. I'm not useless without a tank or healer, I'm not useless without a dedicated DPS and I can sandbox the tar out of this game to see what I can accomplish and what new and unique ideas I can come up with to tackle various levels of difficulty.

It's fun, and I don't feel reliant on others to have fun when I want to. Sure, I also really do like running with other people - but that the option is there to do whatever content I want casually or as a challenge to myself is so far not replicated anywhere else.

Yeah games like neverwinter you are pretty much
limited to what the Devs allow you to do.

DDO is a giant sandbox of tactics builds and consumables.

I like the fact I can enter any content l want.

Taking away the need to group most of the time is why I don’t play any more

I agree with you that vertical development is a traditional feature of DDO.

I think this is also my reason for mostly playing DDO.

I also play GW2 but few days ago after 2 months of only logging in to do daily quests I decided to put it on "play very rarely" list.

But DDO has that something I like, and I love that there are no "do it daily or you lose A LOT" part of game (only DD and YMMW on how profitable that part is)
