Question make no sense. General vendor is a subset of NPC. So answer is 42.

NPC, because a general vendor is an NPC PLUS has to count the money and do all this math stuff...

General Vendor is a tough job. Buying all that junk AND serving as a General. NPC just stand around most of their time.

A General Vendor is only one of the many NPCs so I'd say the General Vendor.

Hate to be the one to tell you this, but I've never seen #1 post win the 500 DDO points. lol

Now on to the question: Who has the easier job: A General Vendor or an NPC, and why?

Don't know, don't care. Can I have my DDO points now? Please?
My take on "the grind": https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post6220972

Ordinary humans have inhibitions that serve as a buffer against what we know is bad behavior.
However, some people, by blaming others for their own bad behavior, develop a thought pattern that allows them to override self-control in order to achieve a selfish end.

I'm going with General Vendor, because they never have anything happen to them bad enough for an adventurer to need to step in. Taking examples from the Harbor, for NPC's you've got Baudry Cartamon (warehouse raided by kobolds), Lady Azrael (kidnapped by orcs), Venn Ar-kellan (tortured to death by different kobolds), Scrag (chased out of home by dogs), Berne Jorn (ancestral catacombs infested with oversized spiders), and so on, and so on… and then the general vendor, Elspeth Wright, who spends her entire day standing in front of a cart, raking in platinum pieces. Not the most interesting job, I'll grant, but significantly preferable to being tortured to death by kobolds.

The vendor, while they are an NPC they don't have PCs constantly talking to them annoying them going through all their dialog options, the Vendor just takes the GP or gives the GP to the PC to make them go away

NPCs have it easiest. "I have a quest for you" and the adventures come flocking. The adventurers do the job, NPC gives them a shiny, often useless selection of items. Maybe a medal that says "Winner" and vanishes the moment they put it in their pack (But they better have an available slot for that renown, or else!)

Now the Brokers...The ones in the marketplace have a bank-teller set up; "Oh you want the next jewelry broker, I don't buy that."

The three on the ship don't buy anything; they just laze around and make fun of three finger Thad, the vendor.

The Brokers have it pretty good... All except that one poor dwarf in the marketplace- swinging that hammer for over a decade and STILL no gains on her right arm. Though, too be honest, it's obvious intel was her dump stat since she's been pounding the bottom edge of the that hammer's handle for all these years, never reheating, never making a dent....

Neither one is a real person, so it's a bit of a moot point, really...

The General Vendor of course, because he gets to ride the General. Oh wait, that was the General Manager.

Poor NPC's, what they have to say is so underappreciated!

I think people are missing the important issue. Everyone is focusing one what NPCs and GVs have to do, as if the only measure of their worth is how much energy the toon has to expend in order to carry out its tasks.

But ask yourself, how would you like to be known by what you're not? Where your title, indeed your very essence, was always preceded by Non-? As if what defines you as an entity, your very existence, is nothingness?

What a sad commentary on how we view those who are around us and even help us, that they are mere non-entities, non-people, non-players. Is this what we as a gaming community have become, people who look down on those around us who are less fortunate because they don't have player accounts?

    For shame!

So this forum thread is a sign of our own hubris and loss of empathy. Or the answer is "Neither" because as bots the servers are doing all the work. Yep, one of those two: Hubris and the loss of our humanity, or the server does the work. Hmm, tough call.

NPC would be easier because most of the time all they do is talk.

A general vendor has an easier job, he has a defined set of duties: 1) Appraise items that are being sold to him or her. 2) Sell a finite set of general items that are predefined. i.e. General Vendor won't sell you loot that other adventurers have sold him or her.

A NPC, however, does not have a defined set of parameters. He or she can do any job that the programmer designates. There are so many special NPCs in DDO that players can mention them backwards in their dreams.

General vendor. No deaths, gets up. goes to work and prices are already set.

I've let too many NPC's die while I was learning a quest. Vendors have it better, even if they have to stand out in the rain with no boutiques over their heads.

Tell your NPC's to study hard, and maybe they can become vendors.
