    Question Optimal Tempest U44 ?

Hi, I haven't been here in a long time. I've been away from DDO since a little before Ravenloft. Last character I played at cap was a Human Tempest Pure Ranger (STR/Khopesh). It was quite strong and I enjoyed it a lot. My main was left as a Monk mutt with an Arti level that I was using to solo/level in reaper stuff before I took a break. I'd like to TR again and get back into playing.

My question is: Is there an established optimal Tempest build out there? I've seen multiple forum posts debating between STR/WIS/DEX builds and using Human, Aasimar, or Scourge. All of the posts seem to have pretty dated info at this point. I'm looking for the decidedly best Tempest build as of Update 44. Also curious if there is just a more versatile, powerful and defensive melee option aside from Tempest?

As for the character I'd be using, it has a bunch of heroic PLs and a few epic ones. No completionist stuff though. Has a +7 supreme tome. And just the basic 80 AP. I did have best-in-slot gear around U35, but I know that stuff's outdated.

    Thanks

No, and if there was, SSG would gut it to shake up the meta.

Why dual wield a melee weapon when you can dual wield xbows. That's optimal, magically reloading xbows that fire at the rate of uzi's.

don't be that evil, there can be an optimal tempest, but it does not need to be the best dps, only the best tempest XD

1 guildie is using... dual blackrazors? dunno, pretty sure it's something weird
psykopeta is finally baconpletionist because there isn't anything to delay it more - thelanis, where the gimps claim to be pros and noobs claim to be pros, no newbies allowed(unless they claim to be pros), we have enough drama w/o them. PS: I post only in the latest thread shown in main page, in the weird case u want something from me, feel free to send pm

Just dual-weild crossbows. It's what SSG wants.

See, I've been gone for like 2 years. If that's a thing, then I don't know about it. Crossbows are really fun but melee has always been my favorite style.

It seems like an Aasimar or Scourge strength build w/ Flow+Nightshard is the way to go. I was just hoping to save myself some research time.

The Knight's Training feat is fairly new and offers an alternative to the Khopesh.

I'm still in the camp that Dex Scimitar > Str tempest.

The current post-Sharn meta is dominated by casters and dual-crossbow Inquisitives, hence all the snarky responses you got about LOL MELEES AMIRITE.

Update 39 (White Plume Mountain) added the Falconry tree, which is what grants WIS to damage and made a WIS-based melee build more viable. Not a lot has changed for Tempest builds since then. The biggest addition is probably the Knight's Training feat, which improves the critical threat range of some otherwise-mediocre-compared-to-khopesh weapons. Right after KT came out, your best-in-slot options for a non-DEX Tempest was probably a pair of Soulrazors. [Unless you were playing a Scourge Tempest using Destroyer of the Dead.] But that was 9 months ago so I'm sure there's better options now.

It's all good. My main has always been a melee class and I've always found success in the hardest content no matter what the actual best (flavor of the month) thing to do was. I was looking for a well-rounded Tempest; something with the best marriage of offense and defense. After looking into this more, I'm of the opinion that DEX is the best overall primary stat. STR may have an edge on DPS but DEX is very close and provides more to the character. WIS may be OK as this has synergy with Falconry, but idk if Falconry is the best idea. Still reading. The AP are tight, especially for me just having the base 80. I think regular Aasimar or Scourge look like the best race options. With other considerations to Human, Wood Elf and Horc. I'm honestly just tired of playing human characters. The Flow + Nightshard combo still looks like it is very powerful while providing the best(?) CC effects. Soulrazor w/ Knight's Training may well be better DPS, Or Calamity Khops, but the effects combo on Flow+Nightshard look nice. It may take me some time to acquire these from a high level raid, so the Vulkoor's Edge could be a decent place holder. One thing I don't like is losing tactics for leveling. I love Stunning blow and Trip. Maybe I'd go STR then respec into DEX. And I kind of want to start at level 1 so I'm leaning toward Aasimar.

I would bet that a int build with KTA and using solrazor + labyrinth edge would be the best dps combo. Im not sure on race, there are quite a few viable options as well.

Im not up on the metta for melee toons atm so take the above with a grain of salt.

From my understanding, https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Untold,_Crack_in_the_Sky is the best TWF weapon when using LD and KT due to crit profiles.
