This is such a simple thing if you've done coding, but man, most people don't get it.
Brooks's law could be stickied on every MMO forum.
Mounts are a part of D and D . just like elves and dwarves . they tend to be featured in DnD games commonly . so maybe we will get them eventually
it might make the game less boring . i was wishing they would just boost everyone's run speed by 20-30% in some areas
I personally think mounts are not needed in DDO. In fact I will say when they appear I will never use them.
However I do know some current players (very few) and some players that no longer play (very few) that seemed to think that mounts would be the be all end all if added. If this will address that crowd that thinks they are needed then go for it.

The DDO world is extremely small compared to games with mounts. So small in fact that it's faster to get from place to place on foot in DDO than it is mounted in other games. Add in the fact that there is a door every 100 yards that initiates a load screen and there is simply no reason to even consider adding mounts to DDO.
Don't file this one under never gonna happen, file it under never even gonna be considered.

Do I think they were necessary?
Nah.
Are there other things Id have liked to see first?
Sure.
Still I think itll be a fun QOL addition to the game, and I understand that the creation of content doesnt take away from fixing of other things, though personally im still waiting on Ladders and Steam Vents to get a much needed buff.
I will probably get a horse just to help with the Underdark run. Though for animation dev time I would have preferred in order: polearms added to the game (tough to get $ for the work though), more cool monsters added, another druid form, another alternative race such as duergar/talenta halfling, more emotes, raptor mounts, and then horses. Though maybe horses paves the way for raptor or iron defender mounts - though still pretty limited usefulness.
I know horses in D&D are on some peoples bucket lists, but if they aren't allowed in quests and they're not somehow integrated into paladin/cavalier style combat (which appears to be the case from Cordovan's livestream), then hopefully there's just this one release and it doesn't cause bugs and the SSG animation devs go back to all the other things that need animating.
Eh... maybe in the end it makes SSG monies as people prance through the marketplace with different horse cosmetics.
Casual DDOaholic
1st: it's already happening so this poll is a joke anyways.
2nd: fortnite style players (those that spend lots of cash just for cosmetic without any enhancing effect to their characters) will fall into the trap and will keep the game alive by buying tons of useless new shiny mounts. Later on, they will have so many inventory slots filled with mount clickies that they will buy the stable for 200$$. I'll never understand them but i am grateful.
3rd: no offense ssg employees, but i dont think you have what is needed to fix bugs right now. I sometimes wonder if you do understand the rules in dnd...
4th and most important! More xp! Only situational, but all of us did join a group at 8 minute and once we entered it was past 10 minutes so we had -80% late entry penalty. Maybe if mount cut that time by 1 minute, well its more xp!!
I voted Yes, even though I have zero interest in mounts and would prefer that time/energy was spent on bugs.
Here's why:
Look at it from their perspective. You work for SSG Oil & Lube, spending every day keeping 10 year old cars from petering out.
Day in, day out. No joy.
And along comes a new project: restore a 1963 Corvette... wouldn't you jump at the chance? Or would you rather replace Karen's ignition system, again...
We gotta give the Devs some purpose in life, else they will wither away.
(but if you could do a Bug Sweep too, that would be cool. Even better - get those servers merged! I'll buy you a pony.)
Its more then worth the time spend on creating these mounts.
Aka a solid profit down the line.
I still remember the pitchforkes for hair dye and pets, yet so many peeps enjoy them these days, even if only from the free daily dice.
All these naysayers, I'll see you in kingsforest when galloping to the underdark!
Only peasants go on foot.
Mount and rider visual effect and specialites by toggling on and off (cooldown) and unique restrictions for types of quests and maps. Rules for Toggle effect hp so that mounts can virtually die and get resurrected/repaired (yeah sounds silly) at the Moon shrines.
It could be Mounts or Avatars which look like an ordinary avatar but can also 'Toggle' to get the looks and specialites as if it is riding a mount; without the existance of virtual mount.
Would that avoid the extra lag ?

What do the horses do? Do they increase your run speed in quests? In public areas? Do they change your height for purposes of ranged attacks?
If it's just cosmetic + run speed, that's cool. If it does other things, what are the other things?
Will we get a mount reaper tree?
No one in the world ever gets what they want
And that is beautiful
Everybody dies frustrated and sad
And that is beautiful
The Poll is too soon. Not enough info beyond "they will exist" and no real information on what their effect on the overall game will be. No matter what direction my kneejerk reaction goes - I don't know enough to vote with such limited options as the only choices.
So far what is known is that the mounts don't go much beyond a way of faster transportation.
And what I saw so far in the stream is is that it takes 3 arrows to be dismounted, so you won't get far with them in a wilderness area.
Also, you'd prob need to rest before you are able to "summon" them again after they took to much damage.
