I read most of this thread but not all admittedly. But it would seem to me that one of the reasons for the mounts to be in this package is that The Keep was a level 1-3 module. So I am assuming that this will be a low level adventure pack with a legendary addition and not the level 10-17 that we have seen recently. At level 1-3 your movement speed is seriously restricted and IIRC the Borderlands map is a fairly large map. Running around with very little speed boost in a large map would seriously suck...hence, the additional need for mounts.

I'll also restate what has already been said. You guys who are complaining about bug fixes, etc taking priority over this are assuming that the same people work on both new material and fixing old...that's almost certainly not the case. It may seem that the emphasis is on new material but that could be due to that fact that it is probably easier to create new material on an existing code than it is to reverse engineer code that the devs have repeatedly told us is "spaghetti code".

I don't have a problem with the idea of mounts in ddo. Hopefully they are more like mounts in LOTRO, and not like LOTRO warhorses (which is like steering a drunk sloth on speed). I just really hope they do not contribute to any additional lag, which has gotten to near game breaking proportions lately. For me it has become near impossible to play aggressively toward the edge of my character's abilities with current lag. What looks like an instant kill is actually multiple hits over an extended lag spike with no ability to respond. If mounts add at all to lag, it could be a game killer.

Regular mounts yes in LOTRO. Just to clarify your post since mounted combat in LOTRO is complete garbage

No just no. In LOTRO mounted combat is terribad causes lag rubber bands regularly and is completely clunky. JUST NO!!!

i'm fine with mounts as long as they are wai. And no mounted combat cause that is horrendous in lotro (very buggy)

Also I see/understand others point about bug fixing

NO HOUSING!! What DUMB allocation of resources. Waste of time and resources.

A major category of player spend to be sure. I hope it contributes to the further success of DDO. As long as they go faster than on foot they will be successful.

A brand new character is excruciatingly slow. If you get a mount very early in Borderlands, then I'm doing a 180 and saying this is a great move (I am not against this at all as it stands right now). If I was a new player and jumped into DDO, the first thing I would despise is how slow I'm moving. I would even probably yell at the screen "why am i moving so slowly" etc. Playing a different game would probably follow. So getting that steed asap would be amazing. But Borderlands is paid content as far as I know, so there's that. Moving faster though.

Personally, I like the idea and am looking forward to mounts. In fact, I think we should return the favor. Let's send a few airships over to LoTRO.

Mounts wasn't on my wish list of DDO things, but I'll buy at least one I guess. Some older games like EverQuest and Anarchy Online had enormous game worlds for the time, so mounts/vehicles were necessary or it just took way too long to get anywhere...I don't feel like DDO's world is all that big. Still, I'm fine with it. I'll get one.

Paladins can summon a horse at level 5
But where do you park it? Did anyone's mount ever survive PnP? Here's what happened to our group:

We left an intern with the horses outside of White Plume, they all got eaten by wolves.

So stuff got REAL! We hired dwarven mercs (one NPC per player) to guard our horses and gear while we spelunked. But after a really good haul, one player decided to buy a chariot for his Dwarf. Needless to say, everyone wound up doing the same and we had a HUGE footprint of 6 dwarven chariots with 4 horse teams each, churning up the topsoil to/from each quest. Druids banned us from their forests.

Then some bright wiz realized he could fit a keg of ale on his dwarf's chariot. Before we knew it, we had 6 drunken dwarves, each with his own keg party, racing chariots outside the city walls. We soon forgot about our Mains, as we were having more fun with the dwarven chariot follies.

...my Pali's horse got eaten by wolves again. Somehow...

So we hired more dwarves to watch the dwarves we hired to watch the now 36 horses we had...
