TRing is always an issue - and not just when a bug completely messes it up. Basically there is one thing that is annoying and another that is a huge drain on ressources.
a) The Drain:
TR cache is a monstrosity and judging by statements about it, it can't really be alleviated, because of the ancient coding.
b) The Annoyance:
Doing an ETR, then leveling from 1-20 just to do a HTR/RTR right after. Some classes take a long time just to click through - only for a char that exists for 25sec. There's also bugs there with spells that might not be chosen at level 1 if TRing into the same class again.
Dealing with The Drain using smart business acumen (i.e. fair prizing):
Noone keeps unnecessary stuff in the TR cache. Because we all know how much of a hassle it is. Therefore, we only keep BtC items in the TR cache. Want to reduce the TR drain? Fewer BtC items would do the trick. Now, I get it: people who have an overflowing TR cache might purchase additional bank slots, so there is monetization in it to keep as many items BtC as possible - but purchasing bank slots just doesn't feel rewarding, because it only compounds the issue. What would feel rewarding is flexibility:
First up, change some of the older, less powerful stuff to BtA right away. Talking about Shards of Power (like, honestly: they're very easy to farm, so BtA is overkill), Eardweller, etc. The kind of stuff we have and we keep just to remind us of days gone by. A general rule might be that new items will be BtC and once they're out for a year (or 2, or 1 1/2), they turn BtA (except for raid loot).
Secondly: introduce stuff to the store that allows to change how items are bound. This is possible (changing items from unbound to BtA is already a thing), and people will be encouraged to use it. There is an element of pay 2 win (farm on one char, transfer items to another), but to me it feels acceptable. And people might be more willing to pay up 500 DDOpoints to make an item BtA (if it's not needed for EVERYTHING old) than to pay for an additional bank slot.
Results (probable): More DDOpoints spent, less crammed TR caches, more additional char slots for banking toons, less annoying load times when interacting with TR caches, because they can be cleaned out much better.
Dealing with The Annoyance using something that exists already:
When doing an ETR, give people the choice to opt into a predefined leveling path. Those exist and this probably means people can level almost automatically. This would obviously not work for multi classed characters, but a Sorc could be done in 1min instead of what feels like 10. Ideally, the leveling order might be saved, so the option "choose the same stuff as before" becomes available. Or, to make it even smoother: have an option for a "Complete TR" that puts you from 30 to 1, costs both hearts and gives both the epic and the heroic/racial past life.
