so im ready to dive back into it. my 12 fighters is a half orc on his first life. i never min-maxed him. thing is i might be willing to either switch servers to fidn the best possible fit, im looking for the largest population i can. i thought of either transfering my fighter or roll a dwarf. i like axes and hammer type weapons. there is a mountain of knowledge here but im not sure what to take in. im hoping to be able to solo and also be of use in a group. any help would be welcome.

Good news is that it's now MUCH easier to make it to 20 and reincarnate. Reaper difficulty (on any sub-difficulty) adds a LOT of bonus XP, and you can probably find/start an R1 pick-up group to start enjoying that.

Also, you'll find both a Lesser Heart of Wood (which ALL new characters now get upon recreation) AND a free +20 Heart of Wood in your inventory. Either of these can be used to rebuild the alt, but I'd suggest you consider saving them for a rainy day.

And now there are 2 diff options to chase for Reincarnation at 20

o original "class" Past Life https://ddowiki.com/page/Heroic_True_Reincarnation
o newer "racial" Past Life https://ddowiki.com/page/Racial_Reincarnation

All depends whether you want a Fighter PL (+1 tactical DC's for 1 reincarnation) or start chasing Racial bonuses (+1 Str, +1 racial AP after 3 reincarnations).

But either way, HOrc mk II starts w/ 34 build points, which is the important part.

What server are you on now? All server populations are down from 10 years ago, nature of the beast.

If you're VIP, you could join the HardCore server, carefully*(!) level up your toon now, and later transfer it FOR FREE to the server of your choice. Otherwise, transferring does cost some RL cash (but allows you to take a backpack of gear with you).

(* it's a trial-run forced perma-death server. Listed to run for 90 days, and that's coming to an end soon. All toons, living and dead, get free transfer to server of their choice when it's over.)
