Thumbs up Okay, fine... you got me.

I've been vocally skeptical of participating in the HCPD server. I logged in mostly to scrum up a few favor rewards, and see what the Day One turnout would be like. And, dammit... despite my inner cynic working overtime, I think I'm going to stick around. Not for the leaderboards (because I really don't care about that kind of thing anymore) or the cosmetic rewards (which I simply haven't liked the looks of thus far).

It's the fact that I haven't run Korthos in lord knows how long. They're almost new, it's been so long since I have seen them. I've forgotten what it's like to start with nothing. It's weirdly refreshing to play with just build know-how and just about zero else. I have no bank to rely on, no legacy items I pass from alt to alt, and I have found myself just digging the hell out of it.

It's reminded me of just why I fell in love with this game in the first place.

So, congrats SSG Team. Y'all got me. And I'm really, unexpectedly, profoundly happy y'all did. This is the best game going - and by far the best entertainment value for my buck. Huge kudos to y'all. And thank you.

Exactly how I felt (only without the preliminary skepticism).

SO stoked to find any weapon w/ some damage boost or any item that did not completely suck, and SO scared of just about anything that moved.

    @ Devs - Nicely done.

You could have that on any other sever, too especially Wayfinder but I don't begrudge you this experience. Go ahead and celebrate.

    Granted!

Actually, starting over with a blank slate was why I moved to Cannith when it first opened. And by now I've server-hopped enough to have at least a small nest-egg on most servers.

Not a lot of undiscovered country left on the map, and I admit I've gotten in a rut in my day-to-day DDO. This is a welcome change that I didn't know I would find this welcome. I figured since I've (once again) been a bit of a Grinch, I should put in a mea-culpa that this is actually just what I needed to refresh the ol' and weary spirit.

Haven't died yet - and I'm starting to get cocky... so I'm sure the deaths will start piling up asap.

Bringing back the idea of running for your life instead of just die in place and re-spawn.

Agreed. I haven’t run Korthos in years, I was asking where what was like a noob.
I enjoyed just sharing random trash from a 2nd level chest or so and people being like ‘yeah, I could use that’!

    Thumbs up 10/10

I *did* have high hopes, to the extent that I bought a VIP subscription for the first time. Totally worth it.

I wanted to meet people from other servers and have fun, and it's been all that. So many laughs from cheek-clenching moments and global death announcements.

Shoutout to my new guildies and all puggers who joined our LFMs.

    Me too.

Yesterday was the first time that I have ever dual boxed DDO.

Ironically, my main account sat on the airship recruiting people while my brand new vip and nothing else account was doing the leveling up.
Lol, it might have been a 28 point build...

    Best fun ever!!!

Completely agree. Been playing DDO off and on for about 5 years. Previously, had played for a week or two around 2008 back when FTP was level capped to level 4. Never had I even considered subscribing. One of the things that has kept me coming back to Diablo 3 was the introduction of Seasons. A 2 to 3 month period in which everyone could start from scratch and compete in different leaderboards.

The clean-slate is what makes both Diablo and DDO season interesting. Players who sit at cap and only run difficult content with their triple completions characters are actually at a loss. When compared to a fresh 28 point character, a triple completionist can run the first 20 or more quests unarmed and ungeared and still have better results. The +3 damage from monk lives alone makes the difference of not having a 1d6 starter weapon. And lord help you if you get a 1d6 shortbow (with +9 dmg from monk and ranger PLs) - you will have 3x the damage as a fresh character has. (Not even factoring tomes) Along with 2x the starting HP due to barbarian PLs and your constitution time. Some basic thieves tools will do better in your hands than +5 tools used by a fresh character thanks to arti, rogue, and racial PLs.

I honestly think that the frugal freemium players are destroying the ubers in the lower level quests, having run up 400 or more favor on 8 servers farming ddo points to buy content with. Heck I have done this on 3 different accounts using DDO points to buy shards and donating them to guild via airship vendor to feed guild coffers on my main account & server. I even bought 3bc pack on one alternate account just from favor farming and run it for saga reward guild renoun.

I hear of folks dying to lightning in "lost tome" in harbor. Having run this quest so many times prior to HC, I have run 8 characters through this season on elite and never once got touched by electric. I look up and approach runes right after the near lightning strikes. I have yet to see the names of any of my super frugal buddys appear in death announcements with anything less than level 5.

VIPs might own the latest content from only running that stuff, but the poor are inheriting the earth... well, korthos, harbor, and marketplace at least.

    Just some thoughts.
