Default Major Update - Thoughts and Plans?

So, tomorrow is the big day. Massive changes to Epic Destinies, some significant changes to enhancement trees (Pale Master, etc) , XP changes and other options. What are your thoughts? What are you planning to do?

Currently, I"m looking at the possibilities of a Vampire form focused EK. The paralyze effect seems really great, with a solid DC (int +20 + Enchantment). It also looks like Pale Master is going to be hybrid-central. I can see some rogue builds with assassinate options, for example.

The changes to Magister shake things up a lot, too, offering solid DC bonuses just for specializing in the tree, and a large AOE nuke option with Arcane Tempest at the top of the tree. So, I might go the opposite direction and spec *Out* of melee completely and go back to my old caster-focused Archmage/Magister self.

What about you? What are you looking at in terms of changes or options for your Wizard?

Unfortunately the 2 builds I really want to try out benefit greatly from the U43 gear.

I am going full DC caster PM with a few martial feats for khopesh swf for dps. I also want to try full spellcasting for dps but I am sure it won't be good enough without pots for midskull at level cap.

I'm curious enough to see how Pale Master do after the update to maybe roll one up again. Hopefully I like Magister better after, too.
Beyond that, no real thoughts or plans.

I was getting quite excited about the PM changes but when I read the release notes a minute ago it suddenly didn't seem as big a change as I'd thought. Once I get in and start testing I'm certain there will be some fun new combos.

Destiny stuff could be really big actually but difficult to know until we get in properly and start having a play. I've always liked the idea of Fatesinger but the the old version was really bad. Hopefully a lot more viable now.

I am too. I'm curious about a few other things, as well, not the least of which is if it's possible or even worthwhile to try and make a DC caster that includes a heavy focus on evocation magic, using Draconic Incarnation instead of Magister (Since my gear and DCs aren't terrible to begin with). I really do want to do the Raistlin-style mage, with power magic as the primary tool. DC casting is amazing, but at the end of the day (Especially when you're solo), Evocation gets the job done.

Hell, you could do an Evocation specialist under the new Magister, and use the overall DC boosts to keep Enchantment and Necromancy running strong. Archmage pass, you can't come too soon.

Biggest change I've noticed is flexibility. PMs now can do well as casters, rogues, fighters, or combinations of these, but I doubt they will do better than well-built dedicated classes. I had a Rog-6 Mech/Wiz-9 PM build that was on hold for a while because it was lacking. Now, it's a solid build that can solo well and support groups. I added the Inflict Weariness and now I'm regularly level draining on vorpal hits, which are 19-20 with the great xbow. Not to mention the added negative damage along with EK Spellsword. I'll add in backstab dice later for more ranged damage. Also, now that the PM isn't so extremely vulnerable to light damage, I'm guessing the one-shot light spells of dooooom will be fewer.

I spent some resources (lots of plat, some shards, etc) to respec over to pale master. Wound up doing a PM/EK build that's finally settling in. Numbers on aura ticks are high (outside of reaper I might be unkillable). I also took Arcane Tempest out of Magister and OMG IS IT NASTY. Melts groups of mobs. Seriously considering investing in Kinetic gear and augments to boost the spell power. It's a tiny cost for a spell that can wipe a group of held mobs off the map in a single cast.

I also dropped a charisma on my warlock for arcane tempest and spell point 10% saving and glad I did so. I am pivoting now and will try pure spellcaster first and see how that goes. I've also heard the new negative dot is super good at 30. Between the new dot, arcane tempest and I guess some force slas from AM hopefully it will be ok as a pure spellcaster. If not - back to my original plan.

I haven't figured out how to make the new DoT hit really hard, 2bh. I ran it last night with empower, max, and intensify running, and it hit well but not wildly better than other single target nukes. Part of me thinks it's better to just Necrotic Ray twice over the course of time that thing tics, but maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Not good testing - mostly just on Slavers bosses on EE. It was pulsing at about 1.5k or so every couple seconds, so over ten seconds it was less than 10k damage. Now that the bolts are fixed today, I'm going to need to see what numbers I can get out of them (cheap damage is wildly important I think for this spec). I'm also very much considering running in Draconic if I can keep my DCs at 100 or so.

Dear SSG - Please put Insightful Spell Focus on something *not* a raid item, or make it something we can craft onto a Sharn item. Please?
