Question Would a Dwarf be a good Rogue ?

    Hello,

I thought I'd use the "Veteran Status III" Event to make a stealth trapper Rogue.

I wondered if a Dwarf would be good at that, because it's one of the races I haven't tried out yet.

Personally, I'd rather like to have some kind of self-healing - I'm currently only playing solo,
and I'd do that for this Rogue first in order to learn everything -
    - but I really want to try out a Drwarf.

Or for which classes are Dwarves good as well ?

The Wiki gives the Dwarf several bonus things, so I thought that a Dwarf would fare not bad as a trapper Rogue ... But I guess that he would have to get an additional level of Cleric or Favoured Soul to get self-healing ...

Of course a Halfling would be perfect becuse of the Dragon Mark ...

As an Aassimar I would have to have enough Wisdom points for the racial Healing Hands, as i call it ... I have one Aasimar who actually gave the error message something like "your Wisdom is not high enough for this" ... I don't know whether this is a bug or something else ...

So, what do you think of the idea to do a dwarven Rogue ? ( Not an Acrobat, though. ... On the other hand ... I think it would look interesting to see a Dwarf use a staff, lol ... )

Are you sold on rogue? I ask, because I feel the dwarf has better synergy with Artificer then Rogue.

Well, Rogue and Fighter (and perhaps Barbarian) are the only classes left that really interest me. Of course, there are more which I haven't tried out, but these 2-3 are on my mental list.

I already have an Artificer, but he is no stealth character, and no explicite Trapper. Plus, he is from my earlier era, when I was more active, several years ago. I'd need to re-learn what he can do. So I decided at one point to rather try out classes I don't know so far with my current time.

I just wanted to try out stealth - I do know that this is difficult game play - and a trapper, disarming traps, setting up traps, finding secret doors etc. ...

This is what I had in mind.

No they do not but at cap it doesn’t matter

I suggest you make a level 10 character with the idea of parking them there so putall your eggs into maximizing level 10. That will be fun. In that case I would do 3 monk/6 rogue/1 warlock (take warlock at level 10). AP: 4 warlock for feigned health, 11 AP ninja spy & faster sneaking, 4 assassin faster sneaking, rest as you wish. Halfling is excellent and you could do DM and not that healing finisher procs feigned health (keep charisma high). You could go daggers and sink AP into Vistani or just use wraps & stunning fist.
Wiki dashboard with some useful stealthplay links. LONG LIVE STEALTH!
Proud Knight of the Silver Legion, Cannith: Saekee (main) and some others typically parked at some level to help guildies and other players

Self healing, UMD skill, wands and scrolls.... Whipping wands can also work well in a fight, if you are calm enough to change weapons back and forth. Wands can easily be bought from Vendors.

Meanwhile this looks interesting, it's absolutely out of reach for me. It's an endgame build, and I'm so far away from it that I don't even understand most of it.

This build linked is a typical example of an Newbie-Unfriendly build. But at least he writes that this build is meant for end game.

I'd rather prefer a Newbie-friendly build without all this sophisticated stuff.

*sigh* I guess I've got to try it out all by myself, then.

There is nothing "wrong" w/ a stealthy Dwarf trapper, but there is nothing particular "good" about it either. Much like a human (but without the extra Feat) - no bonus stat (that is relevant), no particularly synergetic racial enhancements, but no penalties either. So, sure, it'd work - but if you want to pick a race that ~adds~ something to the build, go Halfling (for +4 Sneak/Hide & self-healing) or something w/ a bonus to Int or Dex. Drow works well here.

If that's a serious attraction, then you the core issue is not so much whether it's "a good Rogue" or not. Vet 3 is perfect for jumping in to a build in mid-heroics, having some fun with it, testing those waters, and then dumping it in favor of something improved.

I find playing a Dwarf as a single-class, stealth trapper to be a little tough. I don't want to derail what you are looking for, but my favorite Dwarven characters to play are trappers and they are somewhat stealthy. It just happens that I only do 1 level of Rogue. I typically go with anywhere between 6 to 14 levels of Ranger, depending on what my goals are that life and mix in Barb for extra dps and survivability. Ranger levels should allow you to keep your main trap skills maxed, you may need a slightly higher INT to get everything. If you go 14 levels of Ranger you will have, Resist and Protection from elements as well as Freedom of Movement, cure moderate and cure serious. If you have any healing amp or positive energy boosters that should be plenty for self-heals.

All the combat feats you get free as a Ranger are fun also. Being a stealthy, dual Dwarven axe wielding dervish can be loads of fun. You get trapping and self healing in the mix. It certainly isn't the best character around, but I really enjoy it.
