One way they could fix the auto shield bash cooldown thing (supposedly animation based?) without fooking around with the animation timer would be to let the thing multi-attack the way the inquisitive crossbow does. So, basically re-code it so that once you hit that 1/second threshhold, whenever you bash you have an increasing percentage chance to hit TWICE, then THREE times (if you can get that high) etc. This would be independent of doublestrike the way inquisitive double-shooting is independent of doublestrike.
I think if they did that and also really upgraded the glancing blows on two handers (every attack does glancing blows, and you can get the % of damage up much higher, glancing blows can crit or do sneak attack maybe?) that'd make those styles functional again.
And then they need to implement a double-thrower build for axes, hammers, daggers, and (why not) darts, and, hey, you've got a broad spectrum of EFFECTIVE combat styles! Huzzah!
