Default Launcher crashing after I hit play, repairing resolution does nothing

So I WAS playing dungeons and dragons online fine for a day or two after installing it, but then today, the launcher gets to the server selection screen, and then when I hit play, it gives me a message of 'getting in line' and then just crashing to desktop. The task manager after it crashes shows there's still some Akamai thing in the background (two of the same one I think?). When I tried to run all the 3rd party installables in the 3rd party folder in the DDO folder, the directx 9 installer wasn't launching at all. I THEN tried installing directx 9 from:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...s.aspx?id=8109

There was a website that pointed me towards it as a possible solution for installing directx 9. The installer however failed and told me to check an error log. The error log had several entries that mentioned something about 'Access denied' about several things I think it tried to install.

I remember DDO giving me problems years ago which is why I stopped playing. These problems are cropping up again, is there no hope of DDO getting past dependencies on all these old systems? I can't get the launcher to work. I also tried going to the options menu and selecting the 'repair' tab and checking the box for resetting display, but it didn't fix a thing. I'm currently re-downloading DDO so I can re-install it (via steam), but to be honest I don't have much hope.

It worked fine this morning on my OTHER PC, and I'll try again to see if it still works on that. The last time I played it WAS on my other PC for what it's worth, I don't know if that affects this at all. If I recall correctly, when I tried to switch it on with my main PC (where it's failing to launch, so not the same PC as the one I used this morning) I was confused to find that I had to agree to the Akamai terms and services agreement AGAIN, even though I'd already accepted it before, and then accepted it again on my OTHER PC.

No idea if all this helps, but I thought I'd mention it.

Never mind, found out why it's not working and fixed it.

    Mind sharing what you found?

I've been playing DDO pretty much daily for months. No issues. No windows updates or any new software installs on a Win 10 pro PC recently. Suddenly Monday, I go to run DDO and i'm getting the intro story and it wants to open in the lowest resolution and the DirectX drop down is greyed out and I can't change the resolution.

So I find a thread here on the forums and I run DXDIAG. All Good. So I reinstall some DirectX stuff from MS.

    https://help.standingstonegames.com/...s-in-the-game-

Next time launch it asks me if I want Dx11 and I choose yes. Everything is fine last night.

Yesterday, I go to login and I get the problem you describe. Launcher opens. I login, choose my game world, hit play. Launcher closes. Nothing. Game doesn't start. So I find this thread:

    https://help.standingstonegames.com/...-the-launcher-

Repair the C++. Try it. Nope.
Reset the Graphics. Try it. Nope.
Rename the Docs folder to Old. Try it. Get the EULA. Intro Story. Game opens in lowest graphics setting, DirectX drop down greyed out. Right back where I was last night.

Back to reinstalling the MS web setup for DirectX. Everything is fine.

Today, go to login and I get the launcher login, choose world, hit play and....nothing. Again.

So I get to look forward to another 30-40 minutes of troubleshooting DDO and DirectX before I can play. Is this going to be a daily occurence? Ugh.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem last year or maybe a tad longer.

The problem is a corrupted file that messed up the whole kit and koboodle. /home/username/documents/Dungeons and Dragons Online/UserPreferences

Pain in the ass if you mapped your keys differently.

Anyways I made a copy deleted, restarted the game, recreated the file, went through a bunch of reinstalling and the game worked.

So a complete reinstall of the game seemed to correct the issue. For a few days at least.

But then today, I'm doing my daily gold rolls on all the servers.

I always start with Wayfinder and work in reverse alphabetical order.

    Wayfinder...Fine.
    Thelanis...Fine.
    Sarlona...Fine.
Orien. I pick it and click Play. Then nothing. The game client won't start. It was literally a minute after I had just done Sarlona. No reboot in there. Nothing else going on. No other apps open or anything. The same hardware, software versions. Everything. Nothing changed. The game just won't load anymore.

    It is pretty frustrating.

Default Same Problem Here But Can't Seem to Fix

I have the same thing happening on my Windows 10 laptop. I've trying reinstalling twice and the trick with deleting/replacing the UserPreferences file. Still closes when I push Play on the launcher. I'm not sure where to go from here. It's a good thing I still have my desktop.

    Any advice?

Did you try to install direct x9?

Using the MS reinstaller of DirectX found in the links above will generally fix it. That and resetting the User Preferences directory. One of those two fixes it for me every time. But it only stays fixed for a few days, maximum.
