Drow Portals in Eveningstar Cavern

So, new to epics, I decided to run the storyline into Eveningstar. Did the Lords of Dust through the web, talked to the old wizard, got my reward. Level 22, ready to whack the drow, but the portals are missing from the cavern, and the war wizard won't talk to me.

I've been in that cavern a zillion times from level 14 and up, and those portals have always been there. The quests on the other side are level 22, so I should be finished with them.

What have I left undone?

Menace of the Underdark content has to be completed in order.

Ah, always best to read the instructions. I was misled by the list of quests from Gizla, one of the saga npcs. The Kings Forest quests are not on her list. Seems like they should be.

If you want to use the Eveningstar portal that leads to all the Underdark portals, yes. And, unltimately, that's by far preferable.

However, you can also run to the far south end of Kings' Forest and use that portal without completing those quests. There's a "camp" there you can tag to make that faster in the future.

Lots of win going thru Kings Forest.

When I hit 20 I typically jump in the river and ride it to the end, run up the mountain, do the portals (including the Riz Malag). I rarely run the chain, because I like FoT better than CiTW fir coms and fun. Plus I like running around in slayer areas. Sometimes I'll join a PUG and red box Portal or House of Rusted Blades.
