Default Gear Tetris - monk style

So, I am having a heck of time trying to fit sharn gear into my gearset without giving up alot of defense. The offence is great, but I try to balance my toon out, but it is hard to do that. what combos have worked for you?

Funny that you should mention this. I am having the same problem with my barbarian.
Having a wonderful time searching the wiki to figure out the best gear setup. Not sure about monks but I am losing about 45ish ppr from my Ravenloft gear set.

The best fusion is to keep most of the ravenloft gear so you keep Mists set bonus as well as Silent Avenger bonus. Simply add the Ring of Taer (for wisdom build) to achieve the artifact filagree bonuses and Collective Goggles (for 2 more stellar stat bonuses). Cannith craft or fill in or slave lord craft for final pieces for things you are missing

Otherwise my Sharn build gear gives up only a little defense (about 10 AC and 10 PRR) while achieving the better DPS. It actually has about 80+ hp better than the fusion build.

thanks for the tip! I am a tad behind on RL gear from the raids, so it may take a while. I guess it will be a fine tuning over time. Looks like Paypal just took my VIP subscription, so I am here for at least another year. lol

My Wis-based Monk plans to wear this:

    1) Goggles - Legendary Collective Sights w/ 21con/+10 ins.wisdom
    2) Head - Legendary Umber Brim
    3) Neck - Legendary Family Recruit Sigil
    4) Trinket - Slavers -> Sheltering +45/ Devotion +185/ Tendon Slice +14/ Q.Con +4
    5) Cloak - Legendary Mantle of Fury (Swap to Twisthallow cloak for Mass Frog use)
    6) Belt - The Cornerstone Champion Raid Belt w/ Q.Wis +5 (wear Legendary Shadow Embrace before you get the belt and upgrade it, its kinda expensive )
    7) Ring 2 - Legendary Celestial Ruby Ring w/ +21 dex (Swappable with other rings especially for Fire absorb and Electric Absorb for raids)
    8) Gloves - Legendary Hammerfist
    9) Boots - Cobalt Guard (If you plan to wear Nystul's x5 set for 2H2H), otherwise Flightfoot Greaves or w/e.
    10) Minor Artifact Ring 1 - Radiant Ring of Taer Valaestas Winning!
    11) Bracers - Legendary Moonrise bracers (If you need enhanced Ki +3), I wear Legendary Bracers of the Fallen Hero for ins.con +9 and Str +22, also when you swap out Ruby ring you keep at least Stunning +22. Also, Moonrise bracers melee power boost only works for Light:Light:Light finisher, but not Dark: Dark: Dark for w/e reason. I guess it's a bug.
    12) Armor - Legendary Turncoat

I wear Prowess x5 set and Nystul's x5 set for a mix of DPS and 90MRR cap for survivability. Monks w/o Nystul's shouldn't even step into 2H2H on a difficulty higher than LN.

Not great advice, I've done tht hard with no nystul and no deaths

Edit, it's not bad if you are still learning mechanics etc and a viable setup.

You mean, after they removed bludgeon damage w/ fort saves from Forge spirits, right?

Also, you must have had excellent Skull control during Titan phases otherwise you'd definitely feel it. Especially on LH.
    Other monks aren't so lucky.

Just to add to the conversation i'll give another gear set that I am using.

Goggles: collective sight wis 21/ins con 10
    Armor: Turncoat
    Bracers: Brand of Kalok
    Ring1: celestial ruby dex 21
    Ring2: slavers heal 22/resistance 14/qual con 4
    Boots: Cerulean Guard
    Gloves: Hammer fist
    Belt: Cornerstone Champion
    Cloak: Mantle of fury
    Trinket: Trinket of Freewill
    Neck: Family recruit sigil
    Helm: Umber brim

Still missing reaper bonus on helm and a few other items but thats prety much it.

Stats in reaper without pots or blitz going

obviously reaper 2 stat helm will add +2 stats

    other pertinent info:
    211 MP
138 jade/dire charge (with deadly instincts)
    133 stunning fist (with DI)
    104 QP (with DI)

pots and Blitz change some of these stats

    Edits:

    1. wis based as well, ocean stance stats above
    2. sentient layout 5 piece prowess, 2 pice sucker punch set, 2 piece one against many set, 2 piece treachery set, +2 wisdom raid
    * includes 3 raid gems +2 wisdom, +2 dex, +2 str
    3. img stats are just stepping into reaper with ship buffs, no other buffs applied no pots, no GH etc etc
    4. if you have the items etc having a swap out to include nystuls when you need it is not a bad idea, I dont disagree with having nystuls like was mentioned above, but i can afford to swap items for it having duplicates of the artifact and weapons. I dont run it regularly, I have put it on for our R1 thth attempts.

    Default Another gear layout...

If you're looking for another example of a fairly-optimized layout at cap for a WIS-based handwrap monk. Here's my current set-up...

Under this set up, I keep the two Ravenloft set bonuses (Adherent of the Mists and Silent Avenger) and use only two pieces of Sharn gear. I take Scion of Ethereal at cap, so my gear choices below and use of Ravenloft Silent Avenger reflects a desire to boost sneak attack damage (deception, improved deception, hide, vertigo for monk unbalanced strikes).

    Armor: Legendary Disciple of Dawn
Eyes: Collective Sight (WIS 21, INS WIS 10)
    Helm: Legendary Executioner's Helm
    Neck: Fleetfoot Necklace
    Trinket: Echo of Ravenkind
    Cloak: Legendary Shadowhail Cloak
    Belt: Legendary Braided Cutcord
    Ring1: Legendary Perfect Pinnicle
    Glove: Molten Silver Gauntlets
    Boots: Slavers (Sheltering/Acccuracy/Vertigo/QWis)
    Bracers: Legendary Lore-Filled Pack Banner
    Ring2: Sigil of Triumvirate

I go with the Sigil of Triumvirate over Radiant Ring of Taer Valaestas for Ring2 because I pick up 3 more DEX, 9 more accuracy, and 3 more deadly at the cost of 1 WIS (which can be made up with reaper enhancements - whereas accuracy and deadly cannot). The set up lacks a dodge enhancement item (insightful on the cutcord), but I can get to dodge cap with reaper enhancements relatively easily (even with only 40 reaper points).

In terms of wraps, I use duality with Deconstructor and Ruby of Endless Night. With regard to filigree, I run Prowess 5-piece, and then the other filigree are all focused on maximizing melee power. I add 39 melee power beyond prowess with the other filigree (24 from Sucker Punch/One Against Many rare raid filigree coupled with Sucker Punch and One Against Many rare melee power filigree, then 15 more melee power from 3 rare melee power filigree on the sigil)

I've tried moving away from Scient of Ethereal, but the DPS loss is too great - and it hits pretty reliably with the gear set up above.

****, I like this setup. How much DPS is lost by dropping 5% doublestrike tho?
Also, how much of a difference does +15AC (Nat.Armor) make going from 213 to 228?

    Interesting gear combinations here.

I think my mistake might be in trying too hard to keep the "Adherent of the Mists" set bonus intact in addition to one of the Sharn set bonuses (Family or Wallwatch).

Thanks, it is performing well for me. 5% doublestrike is minimal especially since you can still click on the reaper action bonus for +30 and still be over 100% doublestrike. There is not much benefit raising your AC after about 200 AC. The +15 AC adds 1% or 2% to opponents missing. It's like 78 to 80% miss chance I think at 228. You may find a better option to craft on the trinket if you value something else available more. I didn't see anything better that jumped out at me from the crafting planner but if you do let me know and give your insights why.

Quality con is on your belt not insightful. Can drop trinket and swap to holy burst for more damage.

The belt is quality wisdom, not insightful. My mistake.
I like my trinket not being a major part of my build as I swap the trinket slot for a resist/absorb item for some raids, the stradh unfreeze trinket, pale lavendar for spell absorb, etc. As it is, it gives me capped MRR and a 94 spell resistance. Not many mobs have spell pen high enough to break through that, so I don't need to push my spell saves up as high. It also helps to maintain my wisdom when I switch to froggles.

Gear swaps are inevitable, but for main dps set up that holy burst is tough to beat. MRR can be capped other ways. Spell resist, meh I don't bother. If I need to not get hit by spells I go to one of my multiple spell absorb items.

I really like having more SP for Mass Frogs, Lesser Displacement and Ghostly are must haves. Having stacking Deceptions is very nice, losing out on quality Dex, about 6 saves downgrading from Resistance 14 to 8 Augment. Not sure about DPS tho, can someone crunch the numbers?

P.S.: I hope you don't mind that I stole your formatting, Pai, LOL.
