Default Make Alts More Fun: Server-wide Difficulty Unlock

The biggest problem I have with playing an Alt character is that as a long-time DDO player playing quests on normal or hard is boring as it is not challenging. However I have a couple of alts that I might play more if I could open elite / Reaper. Yes, I could go VIP but I don't want to as I made the decision to move to Premium, and I own all of the content already, as well as most of the classes and races that I want.

So I propose that once you have a character on a server unlock hard or elite by TRing, then that difficulty is unlocked for all of your character on that server, instead of on a per character basis. This could then be a lot of fun to even roll up a new character, or start a static group, and be able to start out on a challenging difficulty level.

    Thoughts?

    Hard agree on this one.

Until they introduce some new benefits for VIPs, this option remains off-limits.

I'm not a VIP, and I'd love the option to be available to me, so I'm kinda working against my own interest, but I also understand that VIPs are the people keeping my favorite game running, and the few incentives they have because they choose to do so shouldn't be waived so easily.

I'm VIP... most because it giver 500 DDO Points per month, access to all Monster Manuals... open quests on Elite on a First or Second life character seems a big deal to make new players go VIP... but, as soon we went on a Third life and learn the Hamster Wheel we solidify our game time on that third lifer. When not... some drop the game entirely (i.e. last posts on forum arguing about implements to keep new and casual players or Alt love from Devs).

So, give free access to Elite is not off-limits to keep those New Players hooked and make Old players with all packs, classes and races run more Alts.

This is a big reason for me sticking with VIP. I play a lot of alts because I hate the Reincarnation Gerbil Wheel, so Elite being unlocked from the get-go affects my game play day significantly. While I could and would adjust if the account-wide unlock happened - I would hope that a new, equally beneficial, lure would be added to staying VIP after the change.

I'm not against change - but they need to add more value to VIP, not undercut it.

You CAN get free access to Elite difficulty. You just have to reincarnate twice first. Third life+ characters can enter quests on elite first time.

So, decide how many characters you want, get ONE MONTH of VIP time, zerg them all through 2 lives, you're done! You have elite unlocked forever and don't have to pay another cent for it.

Yes, this is my eventual plan, to get all of my alts to 3rd life so elite is unlocked forever, but being forced to run on normal or hard is SOOOO boring. As for going VIP for a month, that's where you don't understand what it's like to be a casual player. There's no way I would have the free time available to do this. If I went VIP for a month, and decided to only play an alt, I might get half-way through a heroic life. I'm also not really in a rush. D&D has always been about the journey for me.

In any event, my original request still stands. I don't really see what the problem is with it. It ensures that new players aren't jumping into a difficulty they can't handle, as you still have to unlock elite by TRing a character twice on a server. If you get a character to 3rd life, you've kind of proven you can handle elite. This would allow Premium players to play alts at an appropriate difficulty level for them, and thus make the game more enjoyable. So why not? If this is about providing an incentive for people to go VIP, a different VIP perk could be added instead. If this is about not giving out more DDO points, just reduce the number of free points given out from earning favor on a first or second life character.

That's a good price point. I'd probably pay for that.
