    Default Help with Trapper Build - First Life 32 point

    Looking for help with a build - going to be duoing with friend - pure pally - and using hirelings. Looking for a Trapper build that will provide solid dps and trapping. Used Strimtom's Acid arrow build as the basis,https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...riendlyhttp:// with 2 rogue levels splashed. I know I will need a DEX Tome to get Combat archery at 21.... but would appreciate any feedback or help.

    Requirements: MAX Trapping Skills, Solid DPS (understanding that in order to get MAX trapping skills something has to give)

    Unless you really need the extra skill points, there's no much point in taking rogue 2. You already get Evasion from ranger level 9 and you don't spend any APs on tier-2 rogue enhancements. So I'd consider a different splash. On a F2P build, I like barb for the +10% runspeed since ranger doesn't get any inherent movement bonuses.

    Feats: you don't need Toughness anymore and I'm underwhelmed by the D/M/SotR chain - not enough ROI to be worth three feats, IMO. BTW the builder is giving you an error because you forgot to pick your stat level-ups so technically your DEX is too low for Combat Archery (DEX 21).

    So I was thinking something like this:

    Apart from a cool glowing tattoo - which is obviously the most important feature - the Passage Dragonmark gives you Expeditious Retreat right away and Dimension Door later on. DDoor is both a handy emergency exit and certain quests are easier/faster to finish when you can jump back to the entrance rather than backtracking on your feet.

    The Concentration skill just got a major buff so it's should be useful now (knock on wood), but I hedged my bets by also picking up Quicken. Or you could spend those points on Heal instead for higher Positive Spellpower.

    Like I said, the barb splash is for the run speed. It also adds medium armor proficiency which you might want to use for a couple of levels instead of light until you get Evasion at level 11 (rgr 9 / rog 1 / barb 1). You can take it sooner, but I wanted to grab Manyshot ASAP since that's your most important ranged feat.

    Due to AP and skill pt constraints, I didn't build for stealth. But if you want to do so, know that the Assassin Stealthy and DWS Faster Sneaking speed bonuses will stack together. You could take Move Silently instead of Concentration, then use Invisibility (drinking potions or UMDing wands) to make up for not having Hide.

    Much appreciated for you taking the time to review and suggest. One question, would it be worth going with Fighter instead of Barb for the extra weapon feat?

    I also noticed you put a lot of points into Concentration. What is the benefit of this to the build?

    This is incorrect. You do not need to give up anything meaningful to get MAX trapping skills.

    Start with 14 INT and just keep putting points into Search and Disable Device and make sure that you're crafting level appropriate gear for Search and Disable Device. Make sure you have a Good Luck item and use Heroism potions until you can scroll Greater Heroism on yourself.

    Have a True Seeing item and a +reflex save item (the +10 Reflex save bonus on armor from the Xoriat themed quests is great)

    You might not be able to survive combat on R10, but you'll be able to get the traps. That will be true just about no matter what class you have added to Rogue or Artificer.

    Up to you, but I don't feel like on a pure ranged build you're missing any necessary heroic feats, whereas an inherent +10% runspeed is an overall QoL improvement. The first time you need to kite a mob, you realize how important moving fast really is.
    I also noticed you put a lot of points into Concentration. What is the benefit of this to the build?

    "When you take damage you roll a D20 + your Concentration score against a difficulty class of 10 + one tenth of the damage received + the level of the spell you are trying to cast. This check occurs when either casting from spellpoints or using a scroll."

    The "one tenth of damage received" is new. It used to be based on the full damage received, which made Concentration useless in higher levels / difficulties because it was literally impossible to boost Concentration high enough to offset full damage. As I said, it's not a must-have because I also took the Quicken metamagic feat, but it is hopefully worth the skill points now.
