Ranger has me discouraged

Hello all. Decided to tr yesterday and chose to go pure ranger aasimar. My past lifes are 3 bard, 3 artificer, 3 rogue, 1 pali, 1 ranger, 1 lock, 0 racial, 0 epics. Reason Im posting is Im just not feeling the ranger tempest. Decided to try twf tempest since as you can see most of my lifes have been pew pews. When does survivability and dps kick in with tempest? Only level 6 at moment but so far its been rough. Very slow leveling, very little dps, and if a red name looks at me I shat myself.

Point blank (dont have complerionist and figure might want to pull bow out some)

Tried tempest enhancements but dps was abysmal, so hate to admit it but been running Inquisitor heavy vorpal crossbow. Am I just expecting to much to early or? When does tempest kick in? Should I grab PA and cleaves? I like precision but seems maybe cleaves would help at moment.
And advice from pure ranger tempests would be appreciated.

Im not asking for a build people. Just some answers about tempest. When does damge and survivability start kicking in? Is tempest not the best in heroic? Does it not shine until epics? Is there certain weapons im suppose to be using through the leveling process?
Well...i guess I am sorta asking for a build. All id really like to know is when does tempest start shining. I have a couple +5 hearts laying around and ive been tempted to use them to change classes. Honestly would like to knock out these last two ranger lifes but if it kills the game for me...

I love Tempest from level 4 up through 30. 12 is when it explodes into a Cuisinart of DPS madness, but even before thst, I find it a lot of fun. I'll PM you a link to a good build since it's in a place that has better analysis than the main boards, but a worse signal.to noise ratio (if such a thing were even possible) than the main board, so we arent allowed to admit that it exists.

Thank you. Looking at your build its similar to what I planned. Think Im just use to repeaters killing all before it even gets to me. Took a moment and evaluated what ive done so far. 27 elite streak going solo all quests 1 to 2 levels above me, some 3 levels above. Think Im so use to playing a set few classes that im just not familiar with tempest. Think I will slug it out. And hey! If it gets to unbearable I can always just do 10 levels lock and show I have no skill!

it kicked in at 10 for me. thats when i got rl gear and it just gott better from there

Thank you Hob, i keep lookinf at my rl gear going...soon. Level 8 should help also since I can use all the slavers gear I crafted.

also, i dont understand ranged combat with your build.... ur str based not wis/int/dex based...... go kopeshes/longswords and see what that does.

Yes, I am strength, but why should that stop me from using a bow at times? Before all the revamps strength ranged was accepted as being one of the best ways to get damage with bows. Will I be able to hit with bows in ee, or reaper? Probably not. In heroics I will be able to. I have a +7 tome active. Rangers get bow strength for free at first level, I picked up point blank shot, rangers also get rapid shot. So with base 14 dex, +7, and the odds and ins from gear I will have around 34 dex, if not more at 20. Through the leveling process to 20 I shouldnt miss much. With my strength being pumped up I will do fair damage with a bow in heroics.
Yes I understand twf is what I should be doing and 95% of the time thats what I plan to do. Also all id have to do is invest 3 ap into AA to get first core, summon arrows, and elemental arrows. Slap in your red augments when level permits for corrosion and id say with very little investment my part time archer is sitting prettier than most ever did a few years back.

The big jump in Tempest DPS comes at level 12: tier-5 Tempest abilities and +1 crit multiplier from the core.

BTW depending on your gear / TR cache, since you're STR-based you might want to look into grabbing Knight's Training feat which buffs a bunch of weapons.

Also don't be afraid to swing a Carnifex at low levels. THF is meh at high levels, but it's fantastic at low levels before the feats all pile up.

Tempests are good 12+ and cap.
