    Default U42 Preview 3: Loot

    Hello, friends! This is gonna be a long post, so bear with me. Sharn has a lot of items - I mean a lot - a crafting system, new filigree, and some other cool stuff that'll really blow your mind.

    Sharn features a return of the Nearly Finished (House Cannith - not to be confused with Cannith Crafting) crafting system to allow customization to certain items. Some of the ingredients used in the previous incarnation of Nearly Finished will be usable here in Sharn, and some of the ingredients found in Sharn will be usable in original Nearly Finished. We'll go into detail about the Crafting system more in a future post.

    Sharn Raids will be Tier 4 - a step higher than tier 3. Sharn Items are found at both levels 15 and 29, and Raid items are found at only level 29.

    Quick FAQ:

    Why no Trinkets? There are no Trinkets in Sharn so future packs can greatly expand with them, similar to how Ravenloft had no helms and future packs focused on them.

    How many items per set? All sets listed are 3 piece sets.

    What bonus type are the set bonuses? Artifact, therefore not stacking with Slave Lords and most of RL's set bonuses.

    I, uh, happen have several thousand old House Cannith Crafting ingredients already. That's not a question, but I get what you're saying, don't worry. If you've got a ton of old House C stuff, you can make some headway into Sharn's crafting, but you won't be able to finish anything without actually getting into Sharn itself.

    Color Cheat Sheets:

    Items with stats that are written up (LIKE THIS IN GREEN) mean the player will have a choice between those statistics using the Nearly Finished crafting system.
    Items found in one of the Sharn Raids will be appended with a (Raid)
    Items that have changed from Preview 2 to Preview 3 are written in this color.
    Sharn items themselves are broken into several broad categories each with their own post below.

    Rune Arms - I've mentioned this earlier - why again fire? Ravenloft also had two fire rune arms. Make a healer rune arm, DC caster rune arm, weapon damage rune arm...

    Melody: Bulwark Your Inspire Greatness grants you and your allies an additional +3 PRR. Make it +3 / +10?

    Fulcrum Shift 5 Melee Power is bad. We have ML28 quest gear that gives permanent 8 Melee Power.

    Temperance of Belief: +1 Insightful MRR - should be different type

    Exceptional Healing Amplification +8/+22 is uninteresting, we can get 45 on ML21 Mysterious Cloak/Bracers. That said, it's on a small shield, those are irrelevant anyway.

    Most of my major concerns were helped in this version of loot, and some of the new concerns look like you already agree too.

    Main new one:

    - Piston Boots. Giving only 5 MP that is qualified is weak by a jump, when we have other non-raid lower level gear that gives 8 MP/RP permanently. I thought this was to scale off jump? This would have created some fun build changes around the need of jump, and something in the field of 1 MP per 5 - 10 Jump wouldn't have been too crazy. I hope we can still go that direction. But if that is no possible, the static value should be at least 10 MP. Also giving RP for ranged toons would be welcome, though the Stunning portion does point these towards melee.

    Some remaining concerns:

    - Light armor and casting still hope something changes here. This suggestion I made in the last preview would be a major one, but would solve this and other concerns with even less loot bloat than there is now: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...61#post6204161


    - Platinum Knuckles are still junk loot. As they stand, they barely qualify as a spiked bypass swap WITHOUT the penalty, and the penalty is not nearly made up for. Transmuted Platinum is even worse than I thought it would be, so that is a new concern on top of my old ones. Either the penalty needs to be removed (and drop Doublestrike/Seeker with the penalty removal), or new stuff should be added. I favor going for the flavor and following my suggestions, but no matter what SOMETHING needs to change to keep this from just being a waste of time garbage loot.
    -- Transmuted Platinum. You are taking an ability from 6/21 loot and just pasting it onto 15/29 loot. The DCs will not work effectively at those levels, and should have an alternate version with DCs to reflect their higher levels. Add a "Legendary" tier of Transmuted Platinum with 100 DC. Downgrade the Transmuted Platinum of level 6 gear to "Lesser Transmuted Platinum" (which has a DC of 35), and make the standard Transmuted Platinum have a DC of 50 for level 15 loot.
    -- Add Blunt Trauma. This has gone hand-in-hand with the bonesplitter proc, and would help the balance of the sacrifice
    -- Add "Platinum Dust". This would be the Dust procs of LGS, Legendary Dust proc on the Legendary version, and a Disintegration on the heroic wraps. Though you could possibly add a blind chance to add flavor and make these different and reflect the higher level requirement. Remember that these wraps are giving up their glove slot AND off hand swaps.

    While I think all of the changes are needed to make it a serious build consideration, adding "Platinum Dust" would at least make people consider the sacrifice worth it as a swap for debuffing.

    I still think the Platinum wraps are kind of underwhelming.

    I'll compare at level 15 sas I don't really play at max.
    Since the gloves also has the same amount of Seeker and Doublestrike you're only really gaining boneshatter, transmuted platinum and Impact I from using the handwraps over the gloves.
    If I were to wear Scraps of Enlightenment (ML:13) and the gloves I'd gain Solar III, Holy III, Impact III, Reinforced Fists, a red augment slot, Ins. Deadly +2 and Cannith Infusion. I'm just not sure the procs on Platinum outweighs that.

    Maybe instead of having them compete with current DPS options they could be more defensively focused? If you look at some of the lore regarding platinum stuff it's often about righteousness and purity - so defending others.
    They could possibly have an effect similar to Stoneskin simply renamed "Platinum Skin". They could grant a unique bonus to PRR/MRR. Maybe they'd have a proc chance for Globe of Invulnerability when in Water Stance and some sort of physical damage Arcane Barrier while in Earthstance?
    I love the Transmuted Platinum effect, though. Someone also mentioned a Platinum Dust effect that would blind the enemy.That would be cool as well.
    Parrying might also fit the theme since you would be able to block enemy attacks with metal wraps.

    I just feel like it would be too difficult to make them viable as it is right now, so make them fit a niche instead.

    I agree that such would improve this version of combat fusion, such could also be thematic if the improvement is deemed illegal by some officials in in the world of DDO "Improved combat infusion"

    Good Flavor -- something different is good.

    Almost Acceptable coverage of utilizing both the glove and weapon spot. But it is short an effect or two (gloves normally would have 4 effects) and it wipes out likely 2 augment spots.
    Also the 35/70 DC is too low for reaper unless the DC is increased by tactical dc enhancements, etc. It will likely mean only fails on 1s so depending how often it goes into effect there really is less than a 5% chance of most mobs successfully turning into platinum.

    To correct this I am hoping there are like 3 augment spots rather than the usual two in legendary wraps and that the crit range is something special like 18-20 (not counting the Impact -- in other words with the impact they should be 17-20). Then there is a tough choice of trading off more powerful wraps for considerably less defensive abilities.

    My chief critique of the loot from Sharn continues to be a lack of flexibility. If I want to achieve these sets, its mostly an illusion of choice. (I have the same criticism with most of the set bonuses of DDO).

    Say I'm building a tank and I want to go for this tank set. Most of my gear selection has been made for me. Im wearing either the heavy armor or the docent depending on race, one of 2 helmets, and a specific necklace. Then I'm going to have to wear the ring with linguistics on it (or the goggles from ravenloft) and the minor artifact with exceptional alluring skills. That's 5 slots effectively predetermined with very little choice involved (3 choices: 1 of 2 helmets, 1 of 2 linguistics, use or dont use set). The numbers are solid and comparable, but lack of options makes for less interesting gear selection.

    What would be more interesting would be giving us a 4th slot option for the 3 piece sets and/or widening the availability of less esoteric item effects (like linguistics, profane stats and skill bonus things). The set bonuses are already typed to not stack with other similar sets and there are solid options to move items into the sets (the linguistic ring for the tank set, the orbs for the caster sets) so I think the work to achieve it is relatively simple.

    More choices = more fun

    I look at my current gear on my tank and look at the sharn suite of items and, because of the above critique, I'm not sure its worth doing much if anything to my gear selection. I spent an hour plotting out gear changes with the sharn suite and the tank set and my conclusion still comes back to a lot of regearing (all but 2 slots) and the numbers going down aren't worth the numbers that go up and the effort involved getting all the new gear.

    Magical sheltering is not that easy to obtain with just Sharn gear and removing it from the tank set neck is a bad move. Changing parrying on the neck would be a better change out for intimidate.
