    Default U42 Preview 2: Named Loot

    Hello, friends! This is gonna be a long post, so bear with me. Sharn has a lot of items - I mean a lot - a crafting system, new filigree, and some other cool stuff that'll really blow your mind.

    THIS IS PREVIEW 2.

    Sharn features a return of the Nearly Finished (House Cannith - not to be confused with Cannith Crafting) crafting system to allow customization to certain items. Some of the ingredients used in the previous incarnation of Nearly Finished will be usable here in Sharn, and some of the ingredients found in Sharn will be usable in original Nearly Finished. We'll go into detail about the Crafting system more in a future post.

    Sharn Raids will be Tier 4 - a step higher than tier 3. Sharn Items are found at both levels 15 and 29, and Raid items are found at only level 29.

    Quick FAQ:

    Why no Trinkets? There are no Trinkets in Sharn so future packs can greatly expand with them, similar to how Ravenloft had no helms and future packs focused on them.

    How many items per set? All sets listed are 3 piece sets.

    What bonus type are the set bonuses? Artifact, therefore not stacking with Slave Lords and most of RL's set bonuses.

    I, uh, happen have several thousand old House Cannith Crafting ingredients already. That's not a question, but I get what you're saying, don't worry. If you've got a ton of old House C stuff, you can make some headway into Sharn's crafting, but you won't be able to finish anything without actually getting into Sharn itself.

    Color Cheat Sheets:

    Items with stats that are written up (LIKE THIS IN GREEN) mean the player will have a choice between those statistics using the Nearly Finished crafting system.
    Items found in one of the Sharn Raids will be appended with a (Raid)
    Items that have changed from Preview 1 to Preview 2 are written in this color.
    Sharn items themselves are broken into several broad categories each with their own post below.

    Loot Known Issues
    • Some static effects do not currently function
    • Some Set Bonus effects have the wrong tooltips and do not function (spcifically the tank one is out of date)
    • There is placeholder text in the crafting system
    • Items do not currently have flavor text
    • The Runearms are unfinished and using incorrect spells/stats

    Default Weapons


    Generic Weapon Suite:

    Just like Ravenloft, Sharn will contain a full suite of weapons across both level brackets (levels 15 and 29). Unlike Ravenloft, these will not be "free" as in free pizza - players will be able to forge them out of Nearly Finished crafting ingredients at a very small proportionate cost in order to avoid overflooding the loot tables. There will likely be a caster counterpart for these. Ideally, these are easily acquired without much effort.

    Syranian Forged Weaponry: Electric Damage, Good Damage, Construct Bane, Adamantine


    Unique Quest Weapons:

    These weapons are found in Quests, and follow our standard Dice Progression for heroics/Legendary - 1.5W at level 15, and 5W (with loaded dice depending on handedness) at level 29. Weapons with Impact/Keen or Vorpal (or anything else that would bump their W score) is not factored into their base dice written above for ease of transcription to this forum post, which is long enough already.

    Furthermore, to aid transcription, weapon procs in this block are 9d6.

    Raid Weapons:

    These will have an upgrade path using Nearly Finished ingredients and Threads of Fate that will boost their dice, add an augment slot, and add their last effect. This will play very similarly to how Caught in the Web weapons upgrade, although it will use Threads of Fate as its primary resource rather than Commendations of Heroism. Sharn Raids will drop Threads of Fate as a Tier 4 Raid.

    Tier 1 Upgrade will add an additional Augment Slot, as these weapons will start with Red.
    Tier 2 Upgrade will add their additional effect (unless you have The Eclipse Itself, and then you'll have your own upgrade path in which you pick a primary element)
    Tier 3 Upgrade will add .5W (unless you have The Eclipse Itself, and then you'll have your own upgrade path in which you will pick your secondary element)

    Weapons in this block have 5(W) and raid-tier loaded dice.

    Weapon procs in this block are 10d6.

    • Quarterstaff: The Eclipse Itself- Implement, Quality Potency, Quality Spell Lore, Quality Spell Focus Mastery, Arcane Augmentation - Upgrades to pick an element a la Twilight from Citw

    No they shouldn't. WF have enough problems with healing on Reaper (end game) difficulty, as game build around fleshy characters and Positive healing, and searching specifically for person able to repair your characer when doing quests\raids is just waste of party slot, so replacing Healing amp on ALL Sharn docents (if i understand you correctly) won't make any good, it'll just force WF to slot Healing amp elsewhere. Repair amp should be on particular items, that's more than enough, not on mandatory set items where you have no other option to choose from. At least let us have 2 versions, 1 with Healing and other with Repair amp, or crafting option to put any of those on docent.

    If I want to tank in these sets as a monk, it seems my options are a little limited. Warforged monks can take the full tank set, no other monks can. Fleshy monks can take the melee DPS set, but MUST use platinum knuckles, as the gloves have threat reduction. The bosses I'd be tanking would presumably be immune to the platinum crowd control, so it feels like there's a waste here no matter what for fleshy monks. Warforged-Shintao monks on the other hand now get repair amp on their docents instead of healing amp, which makes curse of healing and healing ki less attractive.

    Is it possible to add robes to the tank set, or make the dps gloves only have threat reduction optionally, like through the nearly finished crafting, or something?

    Not that I'm complaining about getting another source of Parrying, which was sorely lacking in the first preview. But thematically how does a heavy pair of boots help you parry? The description of parrying in game says "enchants its user with incredible awareness and speed."

    I'm disappointed that the only Spell Resistance item was changed from the first preview. It would have been nice to have a new non-raid Spell Resistance item.

    Thank you for the preview!

    First off i see that the set bonuses are very strong. Secondly I see that the set bonus are very fixed in items and slots. In fact the 3 slots are fixed. Pick your armor type and each slot gets one choice of gear options. This is like the RL set bonus.

    What this will do is first make everyone want to have a set, and secondly have everyone pick the same gear set for almost every other person using that set bonus. This creates a situation where say a monk and a ranger might end up with the same gear set.

    Have multiple different classes/builds/people run more or less the same gear set does several things. First it more or less invalidates every prior peace of gear that could fit into one of those 3 item slots. Secondly it makes future items in those slots eather worthless or they make these items obsolete. Thirdly because the sets are more or less "fixed" any item which has a duplicate bonus as an item from a set item becomes significantly less useful creating dead items. And lastly it creates a environment where everyone wants the same item, thus decreasing build diversity.

    2 solutions jump out to me to help alleviate the issue. Solution 1 is my preferred solution but might be more challenging teck wise.

    (1) move set bonuses to augments. This will allow people the diversity to put what ever items where ever, thus increasing the pool of viable items. If you feel that you have to restrict set's to only 1 (instead of letting people have multiple ones) make them exclusive or alternatively make the chest a required item that defines the set. Like have chest give set bonus if you have augment 1 and 2 equipped.

    (2) Have more slots available to set bonuses. This opens up the pool and encourages different items.

    This is something that I am very interested in solving. I think I can finangle the slightly technically unfeasible Stone Shoes into a pretty high-calibre acid item and keep the flavor of stone/acid. Right now no matter how I poke them they're just not... fun? And given that Acid needs to go somewhere, and that it would be nice to have an alternative to the Cannith Challenge Rock Boots, so I think it might work out. Thoughts?

    Yes, should be 6% (or close to it). If it's not, we'll change it. Insightful should be half scalar.
