Default U42 Preview 2: Minor Artifacts

    Disclaimer
Everything seen on the preview server, Lamannia, is not final and is subject to change or removal before live release.

Update 42 is going to feature a new designation for equipment items called a "Minor Artifact". The most basic explanation is: A piece of equipment with the "Minor Artifact" designation (displayed on it's tooltip) is an extra powerful item that goes into one of your normal equipment slots (Head, Neck, Wrists, etc.) and can have filigree slotted into it. Below are some specific details to help understand what is distinct about a Minor Artifact:

    • Each Minor Artifact can only be equipped into a specific equipment slot, however, which slot that is differs from Minor Artifact to Minor Artifact.
    • A character may only equip a single Minor Artifact regardless of slot.
    • The power level of equipment effects on a Minor Artifact are higher than other equipment items at the same minimum level.
    • Minor Artifacts can be placed in the Sentient Weapon ui.
    • Each Minor Artifact begins with one Filigree Slot available. They do not need a Sentient Jewel nor can you slot a sentient jewel into one.
    • Minor Artifacts can consume named items, just like a Sentient Weapon, to gain xp.
    • Unlocking Filigree slots for a Minor Artifact costs half the XP that unlocking a Filigree slot in a Sentient Weapon costs.
    • Each Minor Artifact has a different maximum Filigree Slots. This Maximum Filigree Slot total can not be adjusted by consuming a Sentient Spark. All of those available in Update 42, however, have 3 maximum Filigree Slots.
    • A Minor Artifact can not be consumed by a Sentient Weapon or another Minor Artifact.
    • Filigree slotted into your equipped Minor Artifact count towards the set bonuses of Filigree slotted into your equipped Sentient Weapon
    • The same Filigree slotted into your equipped Minor Artifact AND your equipped Sentient Weapon will not stack with each other, though both will count towards their set bonus. (For instance, if you placed "Deadly Rain Dexterity" into both your equipped Minor Artifact and your equipped Sentient Weapon you would only gain +1 Dexterity BUT you would have the 2 piece set bonus from Deadly Rain active)

And that's essentially the Minor Artifacts system. Players will choose one high powered item to be the cornerstone of their gearing layout and then will fill it out with filigree in order to expand their available filigree set bonus possibilities.

The full list of Minor Artifacts currently planned to be released with Update 42 is below:

Why is the only Con item gloves that would prevent the melee set item? Need another Con item in the group.

So what's up with the random absorptions?

For clarity, what I mean is, what is the design idea behind adding seemingly random absorption to every minor artifact?

I suggest switching these two around:
Key of Rhukaan Draal Necklace Minor Artifact
    Minimum Level:29
    Maximum Filigree Slots: 3

    • Intelligence +22
    • Insightful Accuracy +17
    • Insightful Deadly +8
    • Chaos Absorption +31%
Band of Diani ir'Wynarn Bracer Minor Artifact
    Minimum Level:29
    Maximum Filigree Slots: 3

    • Intelligence +22
    • Quality Spell Focus Mastery +2
    • Quality Potency +41
    • Light Absorption +31%

Can we make above Bracer also a Necklace (or perhaps Boots)?

Re: The Aether Band set for INT based casters includes a bracer, so INT based casters will not be able to use the above bracer Artifact, and instead will have to use the necklace, which is really more of an INT based ranged DPS item.

    Default Parrying

I really like the addition of the Parry onto one of the items. I'll admit that I would love to see it on one of the more "caster" focused items as well (instead?). I don't know where that might make sense. Potentially on the Wisdom item instead of either the Accuracy or the Quality Deadly +5? Maybe I am wishing for too much as I usually value saves a whole bunch and most of my many toons have saves in the 50's it seems (so adding another way to get Parrying would be pretty sweet as by 30, it seems like those sources aren't there as much).

So, call me a sucker for Parrying and I would love to see another item get it.

Thanks for reading - can't wait for Sharn!!!

Most wisdom using classes that will want the quality spell focus use armor (druid/cleric/FvS), which will not stack with the armor bonus. Please consider changing the armor bonus. Even shield bonus would be better.

This was better with Quality deadly instead of Insightful now it doesnt really even work with the dex based items in sharn gear.

Hey guys, just wanted to start by saying I'm pretty jazzed about whats coming, but wanted to ask if we could have a red slot on the artifacts please? Perhaps an Orange if not red? Not sure if anyone entertained the idea of a 'prismatic' slot, that could take any color....

    Thanks everybody!

Is it intended that you cant swap artifacts from the same slot for one another? (IE swap an artifact ring to an artifact ring)

Also, set bonuses are still not working with artifacts or they are extremely buggy. The individual filigrees are working as intended though. (Edit: Apparently it is not artifact exclusive, the sucker punch filigree 2 piece set is bugged on my guy and not providing the 5 mp)

Double edit: Yea artifacts arent applying set bonuses for my character.

    Lynn!!!!

What if you put ghostly on all of these artifacts. Simply remove ...... absorption, and add ghostly. If not all of the items, how about just on the dex +22 goggles as those are the ones I want....

Really like the items and sets you have put together for this update.

Are these raid items? The green text made me think they are non-raid, but a raid item list was posted and these things are those lists.

My first suggestion is tweak Sigil of the Triumverate and Key of Rhukaan Draal to have Quality Accuracy + Deadly, rather than Insightful. Insightful Accuracy + Deadly are both prevalent in the other Sharn named loot, but Quality is not. Two other artifacts already have Quality Accuracy + Deadly.

My second suggestion is that ir'Kesslan's Shattered Lens would make more sense in the bracer slot than the goggles slot, and Guantlet of the Iron Council would make more sense in either the cloak or boots slot. I mean that both mechanically and thematically.

My third suggestion is that Spell Resistance (on Gauntlet of the Iron Council) is an extremely niche effect. To make it useful you have to design your whole build around it. I support having Spell Resistance in the Sharn loot, but on one of the regular or raid items. Maybe Insightful Spell Saves on the artifact would retain the same thematic intent?

Why there's only 3 slots for filigree in artifacts, when most of the filigree sets have 4-5 tiers?

If I understand correctly, these work together with sentient weapons so youll have 8+3 slots for 11 total

The Absorption aspect of the artifacts makes these situationally more useful and increases the overall attractiveness of the artifacts as something I might want

Please keep that element of the design

I particularly want the Band of Diani ir'Wynarn on my Pale Master

I was ok with the lenses, I interpreted it as being able to see the attacks coming and react better. I'd say it fits either bracer or goggle thematically based on effects.

I agree about the gauntlets though, a complete line of defensive effects seems more cloak than gauntlet to me too.

As i suggested in the Loot thread as well, i think the best way to avoid collisions between sets and artifacts whould be to make all artifacts rings, since there are two ring slots, so there is room for variation on the 2nd slot, and no set has a ring in it.

And maybe it whould be a good idea to seperate the enhancement type per se, like normal and insight on sets and quality on artifacts that way there whouldnt be so much conflicts for different builds/gear layouts.

There could be a 2nd Con artifact with maybe qual mrr and qual prr (or qual AC Bonuses like 5% Quality AC or qual Protection/Natural Armor) as well or a 2nd str one with qual stunning and qual shield bash or something like this.

    Tyvm for considering.

Making artifacts all rings certainly works, but makes them kind of boring thematically. I want talking hats, gloves, etc. For this iteration, just changing the slot to something that the primary user would not be using is likely best, or, since we only ever have one, have them complete sets automatically (some generic set bonus, completes one set you have two items for within sharn). Or just add the set bonus to the ones that have that conflict.

But to the devs, this is a problem, please fix this. Minor artifacts are a great idea. Everyone likes sets in general. Don't make us choose between a set for a (wizard/druid/etc) and a minor artifact for a (wizard/druid/etc) from the same pack. Obviously, no matter where you put it (except the aformentioned rings) it will break some set, but the artifacts shouldn't break the set for classes/builds it was designed for.

Altho making all Artifacts rings might be a bit more boring, it seems to be the only way to avoid conflicts with some build/gear layout. The problem of the very high diversity of the builds makes it very challenging to not offend some build or another. What about the melee Int Harper or the Con based melee Dwarf or ....

To make the conflicting Artifacts complete some Set or another might solve the problem on the first sight, but then you exclude those builds from the other set Item, which might have some needed enhancements like for instance make an Int Assasin choose between Assasinate and Int Artifact (both Neclaces atm) even if the melee set is completed by the artifact. Or have the argument of insight vs. quality on a specific artifact, since the insight item from the set might comflict with the quality artifact etc.

The only slots beside rings that are not used by any set are the trinket (which is planned for some future update), the boots, and the belt. On those you whould avoid any of the Artifact/Set conflicts as well, but then you might exclude some builds from other sharn items for those slots or the future trinkets.

The advantage of the Ring slot is that you can still wear a 2nd one of your choosing as well as that it doesnt conflict with the Sets.

    I fully agree !!!

Thx for all the work on sharn and the consideration of feedback
