    Default Iconic Reincarnation

    Greetings,

Question: Is it possible to reincarnate my dragonborn bard into an Iconic Race?

I am studying the byzantine reincarnation rules on DDO Wiki, and I think I have come to the conclusion that Iconic Reincarnation is only for those characters who were created as Iconic Characters and then want to reincarnate and stay iconic. It looks like I could reincarnate an iconic character to another race using heroic/racial reincarnation, but I could not take a L-30 dragonborn character and Iconic Reincarnation him.

    Am I reading this correctly?

Iconic reincarnation is only for a character that is already a Iconic. In your case just do a Epic Reincarnation (for the Epic past life) then do a normal TR and just pick the Iconic you want.

Ok, maybe I do misunderstand then...

If I am a level 30 dragonborn bard... then I can:

    1. Do an epic reincarnation... down to level 20...
    2. Then do a heroic/racial reincarnation... down to level 1...
    3. And now I can pick an iconic race to start at level 15?

    Is that possible?

Yes. Once you do the TR.(racial or class) then just pick the iconic you want during character creation

Yes, when you do the second tr, you recreate your character, choosing a heroic race or an iconic race.

Think of epic trs completely separately, they never reset any first time rewards, favor, mm counts, etc, and they’ll never give you a race/class pl. Epic trs are strictly for epic destiny past lives and give you a free lr rebuild (no race/class change) that will leave you at level 20. You can pick any sphere you have the karma for, and don’t have to pick the destiny you just played, making etr a very different system.

Racial/class/iconic are full trs where you get credit for the life you just lived, then can choose a new unrelated one, with first time xp bonuses and a favor reset. Iconics give the iconic and heroic past life at the same time.

So... I really SHOULD be doing the Iconic TRs first... because on one run from L-15 to L-30, I can get an Iconic PL _and_ a heroic PL for my favorite class?

    Bonus!

A few iconic past lives to get triple paladin and such is a good idea, but you get quite a bit of defense from epic past lives, with ac from martial, prr from divine, hp from primal and energy absorption from arcane. You also get stances from epic and iconic past lives, but while you can only use one iconic stance, you can use one epic stance from each sphere, so 4 epic and one iconic at the same time. 12 epic past lives can gives you huge passive benefits and also give stances like 10% doublestrike, 10% doubleshot, +3 to your weapon’s enhancement bonus, +3 to all saves, etc.

The other thing to consider is how you pay for your tr, heroic and racial require token farming, iconic and epic require heartseeds. If you’ve been at cap awhile but havent been token farming, you may have the stuff for 10 epic/iconic, but not be able to afford even 2 heroic/racial.

Hmmm... those are good points. Man! I have a lot to think about. I'm only on my 7th life, so its all kind of new to me.

Do you know of any guides that recommend TR strategy to make the most of these PL benefits? I'm thinking HPs and SPs and AC are more desirable, but maybe PRR/MRR and healing amp are more useful?

Also, I really want that Completionist Feat *drool*

Be aware that Monster Manual kill counts do not reset on an Iconic TR, so if you care about that, you would need to play a non-iconic every few lives to reset it.

If it helps, I've been doing a couple of iconic lives, then a non-iconic life, then back to iconics. This way I've been able to get iconic past lives en route to completionist, but by going back to level 1 every few lives, I also get a bit more variety in the quests I run.

Also, the non-iconic lives allow me to get epic past lives, and if I hit upon an iconic I'm really enjoying, I'll also do an ER at 30, rather than an ITR.

2 ways to look at it. If you just enjoy doing past lives and want to hit them all, then look at what lives give the most universal benefits. If you want to end up as the most effective xyz build, then look at what gives the most benefit to xyz build. I’d go for general benefit though, you might enjoy xyz build now, but you could get bored with it, SSG could nerf it through direct action or lack of upgrades over time, or most likely you’ll find a build you like even more during trs.

A separate consideration is heroic benefit vs cap benefit. Grtting 18 mrr and 30 prr from past lives is huge at level 3 when you have none. Deep gnome warlock iconic for mrr, divine prr plus brace +3 saves, arcane +3 to weapon, and colors of the queen for random fun were all things I aimed at early. 3 martial for +3 skill is big on skill dependent classes at lower level, too.

A thing to consider is that doing 30 heroic in a row followed by 30 epic in a row or vice versa is very poor strategy, since you won’t get any first time epic bonus or bravery bonus after the first couple epic lives. My tr buddy and I always do an epic life with each heroic life, makes for easy xp all the way to 30, some people do 2 or 3 epic lives for each heroic and milk all the little things in epic to get 20-30 multiple times with a variety of different xp sources like slayer zones, challenge xp, and first time bonuses for different difficulties. Iconic and heroic/racial lives don’t have to worry about xp planning, since they always reset everything, it’s purely an epic tr concern.

Another thing is to find a good build for each epic destiny sphere. I’m doing artificer arcanotech right now, it’s great for epic arcane past lives but would be less fun for martial. Warlock is great for divine past lives, ranger furyshotter can do primal, most melees can do legendary dreadnought in martial, etc. it sucks to do destinies that are poor for your build to reload karma.
