    Default U42 Preview 1: 4/2-4/4

    Disclaimer
Everything seen on the preview server, Lamannia, is not final and is subject to change or removal before live release.

(EDIT: The first preview of U42 has ended. Thank you all for coming out and providing feedback. If there is any other feedback about what was on offer for preview 1 please post it on the forums for the team to peruse.

We have atleast one more preview of U42 planned. The second preview is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday 4/16-Thursday 4/18 and is tentatively scheduled to contain all of the content and loot releasing with U42 including all of the Story Dungeons, all of the Explorer Dungeons, the Cogs Wilderness Area, the first Sharn Raid, the quest loot, the raid loot, the minor artifacts, and the new filigree.

If you’ve got a raid group, in particular, we’d love it if you could try to wrangle them to provide feedback during preview 2!)

Hey, all! The pre-sale of our new Expansion (visit www.ddo.com/sharn) is available! The preview server will be opening up for a first preview of the contents of that expansion, which will be Update 42, on Tuesday April 2nd and will be closing in the evening of Thursday April 4th. This preview is now open! This preview contains the following features:

This preview does not include any other U42 features (Filigree, the other 5 Story dungeons, the other 3 Explorer Dungeons, the Cogs wilderness area, etc.). Those will be featured in a later preview.

There will be a dev event on the preview server on Wednesday 4/3 from 8PM to 10PM Eastern where you can chat with atleast Cocomajobo to get questions answered and have your feedback collected for the rest of the team to peruse.

In addition to those main features there are an assortment of smaller changes and/or bugfixes which are listed below

    Character
    • Favored Soul's Bonus Feats have much clearer and more concise wording
    • Fixed Obscuring Mist doing Obscuring Darkness FX
    • Fixed Obscuring Mist's effect having the name/description of "Obscuring Darkness"
    • Fixed Fireball's/Domain Fireball's spell description (never got updated in U41)

    Items
    • N/A

    Monsters
    • N/A

    Quests
    • The Salve of Stone to Flesh in Eyes of Stone now has a cooldown of 5 seconds, rather than 30.

    Misc
    • Shield Guardian Hirelings have updated sounds
    • The engine will no longer limit video/virtual memory usage as harshly on systems which have sufficient virtual memory. The game should properly take advantage of virtual memoryresources available to it.

    Hi Coco,

Will access to Sharn content be 'gated' in any way i.e. as a Premium, would I be asked to purchase as-yet non-existent store items to be able to see or get to Sharn? Always a vexing Catch-22 when that sort of thing happens.

    Thanks in advance

As always with a preview, we will provide means for all players that enter lamannia to access the new features. Usually this takes the form of grabbing Preview Store DDO points from Lord Poincelot in the Test Dojo and then purchasing the placeholder priced offers in the Preview DDO store.

    That's great to know, thanks!

But just so you know, I do consider 99,999 DDO points a sort of paywall. Aim lower, please! I've held Lord Pointsy upside down and shaken him until his pantaloons were empty of points before, and still not had enough.

We are very excited to begin showing off the fun things coming in Update 42! Our first preview of this update is planned to open up in the early afternoon of Tuesday 4/2/2019 and remain open until the evening of Thursday 4/4/2019. This will be the first of multiple planned previews and will only contain a portion of the features that are planned to go live with Update 42. This thread will be updated with release notes will when the server is open.

This first preview is expected to contain looks at the following features:

    • Sharn Public Space
    • 4 Story Dungeons
    • 4 Explorer Dungeons
    • Quest Loot
    • Raid Loot
    • Minor Artifacts
    • Miscellaneous bug fixes and changes

All other Update 42 features (Including, but not limited to, Filigree, Raids, Explorer Area, and the remainder of the dungeons) are not planned for this first preview.

It bears mentioning: Everything seen in this preview is in varying degrees of completion and polish. Nothing is in a final state. We will be releasing currently known issues with the release notes but, as always, expect unfinished deco, dm voiceover, placeholder icons, and the like.

We look forward to your feedback! <3

Our default placeholder points value is intentionally preposterously high for two reasons:

    • If the offering is ever mistakenly published in the live store before it is meant to be sold it will cost a preposterous amount of points and likely not be purchased by anyone.
    • The price is obviously placeholder and no one looking at it on preview will mistake it for the actual intended price of the item. Basically, stops people from yelling at us with “They jacked the price up after lamannia!”.

For those reasons we will continue to set preview prices preposterously high.

    Hi,

I understand the intent perfectly, but I never would have made the first post if I had not experienced otherwise before. Others have too, and have posted such (along with responses that the issue couldn't be corrected until Preview #2 rolled around).

Hence the gentle reminder to help you avoid a repeat performance.

    Thank you

Forgive me, but would not setting the price as 1 DDO point also be the same as 99999 DDO points? No one expects that to be the actual price and knows its a placeholder.

If you are working on the premise that players would become disllusioned with the price when it goes up in live store prices, then the direct opposite of reducing prices doesn't make players happy with the price more once it reaches live store either. So I fail to see why not 1 DDO point over 99999. Personally, it makes it easier for me to test things, because I don't need to hit the Dojo every time to speak to Sir Pointsalot every time something new comes out then, and then repeat again after to obtain whatever else needed from the store. And of course when SSG wipes the server each time.

    :: edit ::

The only thing I agree is if you place it onto the Live store accidentally, but I'm only interested in Lamannia testing... So how about upping Sir Pointsalot DDO point allocation? x2 would be nice so I don't have to keep logging in and out to get the necessary amounts to test with over there.

Yes. There is a difference between the world having a patch deplpyed to it, the world being up and running, and the world being open to players.

We’re currently in the “The world has had a patch deployed and is up but not yet ready to be opened to players” stage of the process.

There isnt anything that threads will get you that you cant get elsewhere in the dojo so why ask for threads?

edit: actualy im not sure if it was phlogs or just scales... but still you cant get shadow or fire scales anywhere else beside raids so...

Yes but you cant upgrade tf weapons without the phlogs and you cant buy tf complete weapons any other way, there is nothing you cannot get from the dojo that you need threads for, what are you treying to get with threads maybe we can point you to the correct option in the dojo, if you want them just because you want them then maybe you will be waiting a long time.

Depends on when evening starts! 12-6 could be afternoon which would make 12-2 early, 2-4 mid, 4-6 late aternoon. Then there is evening which is really only 2 hours then its night.
But it could be SSG afternoon which would be anywhere from 12-12 in the literal sense of after noon. So early afternoon could be 12-5/6
