Seems to me like something perfectly normal.

Buying the expansion through points is actually a bit less expensive than buying it outright (though it doesn't come with the neat perks)
Your real money spent will be able to purchase the expansion at a later date at a cheaper price.

If you're complaining that in order to get your cheaper price you have to wait longer, well, I've seen many people going to the forums complaining they bought points a week before double or triple bonus points promotions, and I don't pity them any more than I do you.

You bought codes for points. That's what the cards say, that's what they're for. You could have bought prepaid credit cards, but bought points instead.
There are things points cannot buy in DDO. The plethora of permanent gold seal hireling contracts (Elieri, the panthers, owlbears, scarecrows and now guardians), exclusive cosmetics...
Buying expansions before they're released to the f2p public is one of those things points won't buy.

Finally, I SINCERELY doubt that was your first encounter with customer services, or that you've been as mild as you're implying here. They've been nothing but charming to me at any point I've ever had the pleasure to ask.

My assumption is they want the policy changed and that is not going to happen. Stores will always have no shirt, no shoes, no service. Online games will always give benefits for pre orders. This has been and always will be a WoTC thing as well digital or real cards, check out what they do for Magic the Gathering online and actual cardboard pre-orders date stamped cards, full arts, alternate arts. SSG does not reap 100% of the profit from sales on DDO. I even explained to the wife why I did a pre purchase as I'm still in the dog house for a previous drunken night many moons ago. Astral shards to level Daily dice not a good idea even if you have the double xp and the funds. This is why I grind and trade for points just as I will grind and trade for my own higher tier code as I still have a few months before I can make another online game purchase as it was a promise to the wife.
Send me some raid timers if you are worried about freebies. Ship em to TeflonDon on Khyber.
MtG Community would have already smashed you with a ban if you acted like this at a competitive event, heck even at a Friday Night Magic.
Life isn't fair. I'm sorry for your condition but that doesnt mean everything and everyone should cater to your needs and wants. You are acting like a toddler. Even after the fact

    1) You have zero proof of that. And I doubt it very highly.

    2) Wrong. There is no "if"

(Now that could be an idea, a one-stop shop for online gaming where you could pay cash to a teller, but not a rip-off like Gamestop)

If he's on social security disability (?) he's getting screwed over nine ways to Sunday already. It is not a moral failure to be cash dependent.
You can buy one of those generic gift cards with cash and use that to make an online purchase. Sure it's an extra $5 or so, which is annoy, but not really prohibitive.

I have never had anything but a nice and friendly reply and gotten helped when I have sent in tickets. The GM's I have been in touch with have always been great.
    Same here.

Every time I contacted CS (not ingame GM, I mean actual Customer support) they were very helpful.

SSG is not going to sell the expansion for points early just to placate you. Give it up.

Many people in multiple threads have given you all sorts of alternatives - people have offered you trades, people have offered to set up a donations page, or buy it for you outright.

It seems like all you want is the ridiculous request for SSG to sell the expansion for points immediately, which is never going to happen. Asking a company to change it's business plans around your unique needs is insane.

Hrmmm... that's one way to look at it.

The thing you're overlooking is that a company can always say "Gift cards not valid for this item" - it's rare, but it happens.

And that's where your analogy falls short.

When you buy DDO points, you have them for everything in the DDO store. And Sharn (and certain other expansions) are not "in the DDO Store". Nor was it expected to be.

Pretty much as simple as that, sorry. :/

I can only speak for myself, but mostly I pay for VIP and maybe once or twice/year I'll spend $20/35 for points if I'm short for something (like WPM's other tales for Falconry, or Ravenloft).

I don't really have any interest in paying for XP pots or other consumables (one exception being I bought a Cannith Crafting XP pot once, along with some 35% boosters).

The issue, as others have stated, is that DDO points <> cash the same way a gift card = cash. DDO Points are given with ViP, can be earned in game in numerous ways, and are given as part of other purchases. As a result, they are not a direct cash equivalent and can't be treated as such. Theoretically, you could have been saving your 500 DDO points per month from VIP for 12 months and get the expansion for no more cash expenditure than your ViP. That is clearly not the intent of expansions and would damage the cost benefit analysis of the expansion if those purchase methods were permitted immediately.
